Jefferson Parish water bills cover two months.
89000 / 61 days = 1459 gallons per day.
1459 / 24 = 60.8 gallons per hour
Close enough to 1 gallon per minute.
Unless OP is a descendent of the Vanderbilts and is on the hook for keeping the landscaping at the Biltmore Estate watered

Not yet, but I’m sure it’s coming. Alot of people are getting outrageous and criminal bills. No oversight, no mediation and lip service from council members. Someone somewhere is getting a kickback off of these meters and scam. Download the drop count app. Turn off water and see if meter still running. I’ve seen some say these meters aren’t calibrated properly at installation. They’ve also said you can ask for a photo of your old meter when it was pulled and it shows usage. Not sure what that does, though. We need a class action or everyone to refuse to pay until fixed. Look at Flavor’s Snoballs fb page (in Kenner) to read all about how evil this water company has become and what they did to a disabled shut in.

It won’t in Jefferson Parish. They’ll tell you to pay a plumber to determine if a leak or not. If no leak, you submit the paperwork and they’ll adjust the bill this one time. Issue is, people aren’t finding leaks and water dept say oh well, you have to pay it.

Had the smart meter install a few years ago here & after that everyone's bill was $1k or more. The new system didn't account for decimal placement.
Its probably $140 & 8.9 gallons. Or you got a major leak.

Have a relative in JP hit with the same thing this month for a 2 person household. Water bill $1000+. Went to the water company and they said to get a plumber to come out and make sure no leaks. That’s just insane!

So all of y'all are having to call plumbers, we come out, find there's no leak, and the meter is the culprit.
What recourse, if any, are they giving y'all? Compensation? Bill credit? A middle finger?

All of the above. Jp was is so fricked right now. My dad’s water bill has not changed in three years. Not even by a penny. I find this very odd
He’s elderly so I pray he doesn’t get one of these new meters and frick everything up.
This same thing is also periodically happening to residents in lafourche.

Another way to track it is (and don’t know if the Louisiana/JP folks have this option) to set up daily usage alerts. We caught a small leak really early doing that when the usage jumped and we had no explanation for it.

If you think it's only a .000001% chance it's the smart meter you must not be in Louisiana. This problem is all over. People are calling plumbers over to attest they have no leaks and still the high bill. Same issues with power. The smart meters are giving issue.

That was nice of Flavors to pay that $3000 bill for that lady and Diaz plumbing to make sure there were no leaks. Yet some guy from Kentucky is saying the smart meters never are wrong (.0000001%).

I don’t think JP has meter readers walking around every 2 months. They will average your bill and do a correction bill every few cycles when they actually come out and read meter. You may have gotten a leak between actual readings and they billed you to catch up.
I’ve had a toilet running for months in back house, so I never heard it. They got me good on that one.

We know it’s wrong here. Seems the easiest thing to do is to check the calibration for each meter because there is no way these meters are running correctly with this many reporting these bills. Yes, that was great for Diaz Plumbing to do. I’ve saved their name in case I need a plumber.

When I was the treasurer at our HOA (not a horrible one...) we installed a meter at our front entrance for irrigation. The meter they installed (not a smart meter) was from some out of business company and our first bill was for $13k. For irrigating some flowers at our entrance.
I called and they said they has forgotten to reset the meter and I was being charged for the out of business unpaid bills. They waived it except for $50 and we were good.
Hopefully that is what happened to your meter.

There are a few people in various discussion groups saying exactly this. The old meter is supposed to be read while still attached before the new meter is installed and they are claiming that the company doing the exchange is pulling the old meters before taking a reading (picture) and then manipulating the meters thereby fudging the numbers. I don’t know what to make of it but I haven’t trusted government for most of my life. Also, don’t forget your sewerage fee is tied to your water usage, I believe 85%. The more water used the more your sewerage fee. And then there’s the various other charges that have gone up along with water/sewerage. Recreation, mosquito control, etc. People don’t pay a lot of attention to millage increase proposals on the ballots and the pols get their people out to vote for them and this is what happens.
I do foresee a class action lawsuit in JPs future.
