When I was in high school boys couldn't wear braids. Black teachers used to tell the black dudes who complained about it "you should be thankful that you can't look like a thug". There wasn't all of this "well its who I am and its about my culture and you not allowing me to do this is racist". The whole "its my identity" is bullshite.
In middle school, when Ice Ice Baby came out, I wanted lines in my hair like Vanilla Ice. I got them and thought I was cool as shite, I was going to a catholic school at the time. I wasn't at school five minutes when the principle called me in, he called my mom, told her she had to come pick me up and cut that shite out of my hair. There was no "but this is my identity and you are taking my right to be me away". That's just dumb to say. What is the statue saying? "We celebrate being basic!"?
