This is absolutely tragic to hear and I hope no one ever has to experience the death of a child.
Teach your children about coping with bullying and that perminant solutions to temporary problems are very rarely a good idea.

access to guns is not the issue? thats the same concept as banning guns in general to deter violence, violence would still happen.
without proper intervention, this little girl would have found another way to commit suicide unfortunately. and even then that may not work.

Having access to a gun is an issue and the parents will have years of guilt over it. But the kids who bullied her should be locked up. All kids can be mean but that's fricked up.

Hilarious how the homers immediately refuse to acknowledge the gun in this case.
I'm not saying ban guns, hell everything I stand for is the complete opposite. Like many here, I own more firearms than I can count and also grew up shooting from an early age.
Nevertheless, as a responsible parent and gun owner, there should be an age when your child has access to the guns or at least both guns and ammo.
11 years old is not it.

Bullying in this extreme form is what results when you demonize kids that defend themselves.
Bullys are empowered by the power they receive because nothing ever really happens to them.
Kids find themselves in precarious situations where they:
A. Stand up for themselves and get in trouble. Usually these people actually give a damn about getting in trouble
B. Report the bully and risk repercussions from the bully because, once again, they (the bully) realize it's working
C. Do nothing and let it fester.
Bullys are empowered by the power they receive because nothing ever really happens to them.

This. A 9 year old hung himself a few months back from bullying.

Once again this is not the issue. The issue is the attempt itself and why, not the method.
Poor girl could have hung herself when no one was watching her or od on pills.
If she didn't kill herself with the gun or it was unloaded, then what? she would have tried another way

well I and all of my siblings, along with OUR responsible parents, politely tell you to go frick yourself. We had access to guns, ammo, knives, axes, hatchets, matches, natural gas, pesticides, bleach, and all manner of things that can kill/maim or otherwise hurt someone. Yet we are all alive and well today despite our exposure to such items at a young age.
This girl sounds like she had bigger issues than bullying, poor parenting, uncaring educators, or easy access to harmful inanimate objects.
tragic story, but I think there is more to it than what we are reading here.
