This bridge only has 11' 8" of clearance. According to Wikipedia, there is on average at least one truck or RV collision with the bridge every month. There are numerous youtube compilations of tall vehicles colliding with the bridge.

The bridge can't be raised because nearby railroad beds would also have to be raised. The road underneath it can't be lowered because there is a main sewage line running under it. Thus, the bridge remains and people keep running into it.

This website has been out for a few years and people are still crashing into it.

Yeah, the guy who set up the original camera at that intersection has recorded over 100 vehicles crashing into the bridge. Remarkable, honestly.

I used to deliver I.T. equipment to schools as part of my job. One day, I pulled in front of a high school in a large Uhaul truck. I got out, and I swear I was 5 inches from hitting the top of the overhang. It was insanely close.

It's funny to watch some of those. Surprised they haven't given more clearance

You'd think the city would put a HUGE sign about 1/2mile away, with a flimsy pole to test if the vehicle could make it at the height.

I never understood the reasoning of posting the vertical clearance of a bridge ON THE bridge itself. It's too late at that point.

I feel most sorry for the poor guys who ripped rooftop ac off of those fifth wheels. You know they had to listen to their wives bitch at them from the passenger seat.

It’s like a can opener for moving trucks.

How has the city not put bars and massive warming before the bridge? The local Penske rental places must have signs all over their offices about to that bridge

Whatever they made that bridge out of needs to be in every new bridge built. Thing is indestructible.

How often do you think they change that cross beam. It looks like a I-Beam setup to protect the bridge from being hit.

There was another bridge just like this near a summer job I had 30 years ago. I’d want to go that way just to see if any idiot peeled off the top of his (usually rental) truck, but didn’t want to deal with the traffic frick up if someone actually had.

If the beam structure was larger, the bridge would never get hit.

I like the ones where they make the truck go 40 to 0 in 0.04 seconds

Why would they? Most of the drivers aren't local taxpayers, this is a great way to collect fines.

Exactly, that is the warning.

It looks like a steel bulkhead is built in front of the train bridge to take the brunt of the strikes.

Oldie but goodie. I wonder how many of those U-haul and other rentals that just had the top skimmed without any other observable damage were just returned quietly as is? I know I would have.
