I live quite comfortably on not much more than that and I have a kid. I'm just middle class by Orange County standards but feel like I'm doing just fine. My point is $100k is sufficient income to raise a family on the West coast. It may not allow you to get a McMansion but it will allow you to live comfortably.

Tbf, when the OT talks about trades, they're usually referencing something very specific like a welder. They aren't talking about the new plumber that works for home 360.

Yep, my city is one of the most expensive and 100k is still comfortable as long as you're not in a materialistic arms race with the neighbors

Then your cost of living is absurd.
In the not too distant past, my parents survived and did well on 40k a year with 3 teenage boys at home. We owned a house in a good part of town and had new-ish vehicles for my parents. We also took a week family vacation every summer.

Where the hell do you all live.
Although my house isn't huge, it's fully paid off, I can always move back in it after school and after requesting my renters to leave.
I also don't mind commuting 30-45 mins

this is probably true simply because labor jobs offer more overtime
but the ceiling on labor jobs are lower than office jobs, in general
