I am +15 years sober. Most people develop a drinking problem due to unresolved issues. I stopped with AA but really didn’t deal with the issues until I went to counseling when my son was diagnosed as Bi-polar. By far the best thing I could ever have done because without it I doubt I would have survived his death. So my recommendation is if you think you have a drinking problem do whatever method you need to quit but also do some counseling and don’t half step. Go in and be honest.

Thank you for saying that.

I debated briefly in my mind about sharing personal information on a website, but felt that even if this pushes one guy/gal closer in the direction of sobriety it was worth telling my story.
I also am enjoying the support not only for myself but the countless other who are lurkers or actual posters who like what has been said here.
This site is a lot of fun and game but this is different.
Those fun and games aren’t as fun in a life of disfunction and chaos.

Something that hasn’t been said is these last 3 years have been extremely tough and I do believe it pushed me into the decision to sober up. Stuff was falling down around me and there is only so much you can pick up at a time before u implode.
I was close.

Good stuff

Naltrexone

It's not the traditional way, but I have a buddy that swears by it. The science behind it makes all the sense in the world. I think that the wisdom that you pick up a 12 step program absolutely. Help you become a better human regardless

A little legal Delta 8 / 9 here in Tejas never killed anyone. Just to note I don’t use this as a substitute to not drinking but a little in the evening to relax and sleep well is great. Started using about 6-8 months ago.

Serious question. Do you consider this sober?

I’m not here to debate whether marijuana or other types (D8)
small amounts of THC is sober with you or not.

Take that to another thread please.
Don’t derail the thread for that BS.

This primarily about the positives and how quitting alcohol has been beneficial for my life and others when they made the choice.

Thanks for playing

12 step is great for lots of people and I’m so glad it’s there for them. For anyone who wants to get sober but just hates the idea of AA, know it’s not the only way. I didn’t want to be reminded every day. I wanted to put it in my past. I don’t count days. I do have a therapist and am learning to process pain instead of numbing it. My rehab was pretty supportive of using naltrexone but I didn’t look much into it because I wasn’t craving alcohol at all when I left. And I haven’t since, but that was at the end of a very long road for me. I’d already gone through a LOT of phases of quitting. I guess my point is that there are different ways that work.

Switching from wine to vodka because you don’t like the taste of vodka isn’t one of them by the way. Ask me how I know.

It’s better if used as a safety net in early recovery than a long term solution. It removes all the euphoria that comes with drinking. I drank heavily on it years back and it was a very bizarre feeling, you don’t feel intoxicated at all

I think it would depend on your stage and your motivation. I know a girl who almost died because she drank so much trying to get the high while on it. She was in her 5th rehab.

It’s not a debate. It was a serious question.

Neither did a little legal bourbon. If you can’t keep your drinking to a “little” how long you give it before you have a drug problem?

Yeah, that was him. I was an argumentative, know it all, lying little frick when I first got there and that didn’t help matters.

Ryan us a class act and I agree with your post 100%. The dude is damn good at his job.

I have a very high opinion of Woodlake even though it didn’t work for me. I apparently wasn’t ready but I still use a lot of what they taught me. My time at Woodlake helped me to live sober even though it didn’t result in immediate sobriety. That part is on me though.

Palmetto is great but I'd recommend Lincoln Nova over in Ruston more than any of them. Great staff, legit detox program with nurses etc that take care of you. And if you're coming off opiates they offer subs. Plus more than anything else you get your own room.

Spot on post. Couldn't agree more. I had the same experience with woodlake.

I got sent there bc I popped dirty on a drug test and while there, I seriously thought I'd never do dope again. The day I got out I had to go back to work to check in. They held my check for me and when I left after the meeting, I went straight to the bank. Left there and went straight to get some dope.

I learned a ton from Woodlake that still helps me to this day. I thought I wasn't ready when I went, just did it to keep my job. While there, I bought in a thought I'd change. It only took a couple hours for me to find out that was bullshite.

And I just told you to take that debate or question somewhere else.

I don’t have the right to decide what’s sober or not with THC and neither do you.
So leave it alone in this thread with trying to prove your self righteous point.
