re: 1 in 3 Americans have less than $5,000 saved for retirement

What this means for those of us that do have money invested is that it is more and more likely we will not be living in the US when we retire. They are going to do everything they can to take money away from the people that are responsible enough to save and plan for the future.
With that said, any young person looking for a career path might want to look into financial planning and international business.

With this in mind, how long before progressives go after retirement accounts?
We know God damn well they want to redistribute the wealth.

I’m not even pretending I’m gonna retire at 55-60 so i will be working through, for sure, my first half of my 60s.
Still got a while for me but i also have been doing retirement stuff for a while now.

I know people that live month to month.
They have houses, cars, plenty of dining, vacations, etc
They just spend all they make.
Are you privy to their balance sheets?

probably because that statistic includes people in high school and college who really dont have 5k saved because THEY ARE IN COLLEGE.
Where did you get that from? I just read the actual study, unlike you apparently, and this is what it says...
quote:
About The 2018 Northwestern Mutual Planning & Progress Study The 2018 Planning & Progress Study was conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Northwestern Mutual and included 2,003 American adults aged 18 or older in the general population (and an oversample of 601 interviews with U.S. Millennials age 18-34 which have been combined with the general population of those 18-34 when featuring this age group separately from the general population) who participated in an online survey between March 7 and March 19, 2018. Results were weighted to Census targets for education, age/gender, race/ethnicity, region and household income. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents' propensity to be online. No estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated; a full methodology is available.
Even if they did catch a few students at the low end of the age group, I highly doubt they surveyed enough of them to skew the poll results.

$200k is rapidly becoming lower middle class.
Nothing can be done about it.
Just learn to do without.

If I continue on this work/travel schedule, I won't make it to 55.

This is very much true in mid sized or larger cities. $200K for a home doesn't buy much unless you are willing to commute a long, long way.

Life can end any day. I enjoy my money and have little debt. I'll take that over saving ATM (30).

This, although once the voting block of that 1/3rd becomes loud enough politicians will raid 401K's and other retirement accounts to subsidize these folks

keeping up with the jones’ and false sense of entitlement
That’s why.
I know a 50 something couple who live paycheck to paycheck. The wife is an admistrative assistant(glorified secretary) and the husband is a construction project manager (in failing health). She is cashing out her 401k to put in a $90k pool/cabana!!! They’re banking on their ability to work till social security and combining that with his small military pension to live on.
Floors me.

So true. But it will be some sort of "tax" on 401k's at 45%
