It’s pretty crazy that truckers get caught in crap like this with all the technology and communication equipment they have. It has to end up being very costly to both the and their employers.
Blame corporate greed and just in time inventory planning.
Some companies would rather take the risk of driving over the frozen roads in places where they are ill prepared than wait a few more days for their shipment or pay extra for it to fly in.

The companies that roll those trucks out there knowing full well the potential should face significant fines when the inevitable happens. The independent operators should, as well.

they have taken us and our surviving pets
Um... what happened?
To the other poster: I'm in Nashville.
Traffic lights are still out all over and it looks like a swarm of tornadoes came through. So many massive trees down.
What a mess.
Eta we still have 4 dogs, a cat, 2 lizards and a snake that made it.

So are the Carolinas basically being hit by a Nor’easter right now?

After 155 hours without power, the power is back on in my house. Very thankful. Looking forward to a hot shower and good night's rest.
i was wondering about you. glad to hear its back on.
west meade & belle meade are insane. its something very surreal about seeing 8m-20m houses with trees on top of them and down in the front yard.
the storm gave zero fricks about whether you are rich or poor.

Sorry to hear you lost your birds CAD. Were they tropical birds like cockatoos? Ours always needed a warm light over her cage.
This fellow wasn't helping the situation.
Detectives recovered several firearms, window-smashing tools, vehicle programmers, and key fobs.

Just pay attention to the "potential" down the road -- by Feb 10th or so, matching the coupling of the stratospheric polar vortex stretching with the troposphere below.
Is that map showing its significantly warmer in N Canada and Alaska than Alabama?

Supposedly I85 is shut down near Kannapolis NC with 100 stranded cars. From pics and family in the Charlotte area looks like 6-10" of snow has fallen already

More people caught off guard by a storm they spent days telling them about.

That's a Temperature Anomaly map showing departure from normal for a given area, not the actual expected temperature.

This is why I dont mind the sensationalism. It is the only thing that works for the low IQ but maybe we should just let nature take it's course

We served 500 spaghetti dinners last night. Got to the house here in Oxford that a friend is letting us stay at. Had power when we got there. Went to bed and power went out. Stayed out till 630am and we left at 7am to get ready for lunch.
Served 500 hotdogs for lunch and 650 Brunswick stews for supper.
Got back to house and power was back on and I just had the best hot shower of my life. It is soooo cold here.
Tomorrow is chicken pot pie for lunch and smoked Boston butt, baked beans, slaw and bread for supper.

I didn't see this with ATL mets.
Last weekend, they predicted that Atlanta and west of ATL, and NW of ATL, would have minimal effects from ice storm. My friends in that part of GA were pissed when they got minimal effects from the ice storm. East of Atlanta areas got everything they were promised.
The exact same thing happened this weekend, but with snow instead of ice. As predicted, East of Atlanta got decent snow. ATL proper and areas west got jack shite. As promised.
Those same people who feel "ripped off" apparently didn't actually listen to the forecasts or don't know where they live or the concept of cardinal directions.
Last weekend, and this weekend, where I live, East of ATL, got exactly what was advertised.
And the people in ATL and west of ATL, also got exactly what was advertised, but are complaining.
tldr; people are stupid
