You're in the driver's seat to fix the Saints offense.

First off, Dennis Allen is not getting fired so you're not hiring a new HC.

Second, you don't have final authority of the roster moves. Mickey will have to do Mickey stuff to manage the Cap but for now assume this roster gets rolled back out with rookie DPs and a few vet changes.

Pete Carmichael is out as OC and you have the chance to replace him and possibly others on the offensive coaching staff.

Current oFF. coaching staff
OC - ?
QB's/Passing Game - Ronald Curry
RB's - Joel Thomas
WR's - Kodi Burns
Oline - Doug Marrone
TE's - Clancy Barone
Sr. Off. Assistant - Bob Bicknell
Off. Assistant - Jahri Evans
Off. Assistant - Kevin Petry
Off. Assistant - Jordan Traylor
Off. Assistant - D.J. Williams
Off. Assistant - Kevin Carberry

Any of these guys you promote to OC? Any you keep ?

For me I'd like to see Marrone, Barone, Curry and Evans kept if possible.

Not sure what outside OC candidate would fit but this team needs to make a true transition to a run first smash mouth offense to take the pressure off of Carr having to be more than he is capable of being. IMO the personnel we have now is best suited to that type of offense.

You have to get rid of Doug Marrone. The O-line has declined significantly in his two year tenure. It could be argued the fall off is mostly due to Armstead leaving and Ram's deteriorating health, but even our interior has fallen off.

I imagine that it’s going to be hard to hire a good OC… surely it’s common knowledge that DA will be coaching for his life next year and will likely fail… who wants to be a part of that?

I do tend to agree. Another thing is the total failure of Pennings development and actually you could call it a decline from his college performance. Pennings situation to me has to be one of the most mind boggling of all the Saints players. Nothing in his evaluations suggested he would be this bad so IMO coaching has to be a big part of his problem. That and probably offense scheme as a whole.

I disagree. a young assistant or current capable play caller could look favorably on the Saints situation as the one to turn it around. Also as Ross Jackson stated, NOLA might be an attractive site to a hungry OC because DA is a defensive coach and he will give total control of the offense to his OC unlike what may be the case in some of the franchises replacing their HC this season with likely OC minded HC's

If they fire Pete, they are going to do a "search" then promote Curry.

This would be a very Loomis thing to do.

I’m guessing the Offensive Coordinator candidates could be:
Eric Bieniemy
Ken Dorsey
Brian Griese
Jerrod Johnson
Klint Kubiak
Zac Robinson
Frank Reich
Joe Brady
Brian Johnson

This is a great point and why I would be in favor of a 100% overhaul. If the new OC comes in and wants to keep some of the other coaches, then let that be his call. But I am in favor of a total offensive transformation at the direction of the coach that will in charge of the offense. One of the major downfalls to this offense is we are so worried about trying to relive the Payton/Brees peak seasons that we are trying to force players/coaches into that system. I'd be concerned that bringing in a dynamic OC and forcing some of these assistants on him would result in a similar situation.

I think Bieniemy goes back to KC.

Like I said, until I see otherwise, I 100% believe they will elevate Curry and make some changes positionally and that is it.

This my list of 5 OC's I'd like the Saints to talk to.

(I purposefully left off the obvious prospective HC candidates and also left off current OC's because I'm not sure any good OC would take a lateral move to the Saints.)

In order of preference

1) Jeff Stoutland - Eagles O-line/Run Game Coord.
2) Bill Lazor - Texans Sr. Off. Assistant/RB's
3) Mike Sullivan - Steelers QB's
4) Ronald Curry - Saints QB's/Passing Game Coor. (I know )
5) Chad Morten - Seahawks - RB's/Running Game Coord.

Bonus It won't happen..

6) Jon Gruden - Analyst - May still be in Goodalls doghouse.
7) Joe Lombardi - Bronco's OC (Maybe CSP brings in Carmichael to get the band back together)

IMO these guys, especially the first three that have OC/play calling experience exhibit the types of offense I think the Saints need to develop into. Smash mouth pound the rock football.

Without knowing how the offensive coaching staffs dynamic worked this would seem to be just more of the same from the Saints. Curry is coaching the QB's and Passing game which at times looked atrocious, I wonder how much of that was play calling and just Carmichael being Carmichael.

However, Curry has a solid resume and if he were on a different team I would consider him for the position. Which is why I had to include him in my list of 5.

Clean house on the offensive side of the ball. Time to stop trying to run Payton’s offense w/o Payton. Innovation needed, including presnap motion on almost every play and play action. O line needs to be overhauled.

Add Aaron Kromer to that list.

Both he and Allen got to play interim HC while CSP was suspended. Maybe the Saints should have spent that time prepping Kromer to eventually replace CSP.

I that case I fire Pete and hire Jim Harbaugh as OC with 10x Dennis Allen salary with the intention of making him the HC next year. DA it's just business.

Harbaugh aint signing with the Saints to be OC even if he was going to be HC in 2025. He falls into the category of potential HC candidates.

They would just keep Pete and let curry take over.

If they fire Pete they are going with a new oc.

I could see them bringing someone in to "collaborate" with Pete. That sounds like alllen.

I'd hire Todd Monken as the OC and make him the HC in-waiting.
