They were 8-8 in Gruden’s best year with Carr. Hmm whats our record so far this year with Carr? Oh wait we’re 8-8.

Was that record because of Carr or because Gruden consistently fielded defenses ranked in the 20s?

Ok so now we’re assessing defenses with Carr too? I get what you’re saying but this is the same logic and BS we used when we signed Carr this offseason.

Oh if Carr had a better defense he would take off and be a better qb. We have the 8th best defense in the NFL this year and the easiest schedule in the NFL- and we’re still 8-8.

I believe they were winning in his Gruden's final season with the Raiders when he was abruptly fired midway through or somewhere around that, but Carr was playing well and confidently when that happened.

Yup and he played well under the interim coach too. The end result- first round playoff loss. Its the just same story- theres a very limited ceiling with Carr which is not worth investing in.

Correct your facts, it's 13th in yards and 6th in points

When discussing team records, shouldn't the entire team be considered? I am not sitting here trying to defend Carr, but he was playing better under Gruden than he did with any other HC or OC. Does that mean Carr has the potential to be a better QB, or that Gruden is that good of an OC/HC? The problem we are facing is Carr will be the QB for the next 2-3 years, you aren't finding many Gruden type OC's out there.

Now the blessing is, because the QB play is so terrible right now there is still an opportunity for Carr to be a top 10 QB in the league with the right system. Hell, someone said in another thread he's 9th in QB rating. To clarify, this has more to do with how bad the QBs are in today's game, not how good Carr is/can be

Agree here, but they made the investment, and we now get to watch the returns for the next few years.

Then god help all saints fans because it wont be pretty. We have a qb with a limited ceiling, an aging roster, and a salary cap mess. Not sure how this a recipe for success.

If you look at QBR which is a lot more accurate he’s actually 20th in the league. If you just look at the eye test you can just tell for a majority of the season hes been average to below average.
