The thread about Brees having the top 13 seasons by yardage in Saints history got me thinking. If you could have any QB not named Brees that ever wore a Saints uniform back for this season at the height of their ability in the NFL who would it be. I'd take either Mark Brunell circa 1996, or Archie, largely due to their escapability.

Archie and its not close.

Imagine if he actually played with a good OC and talent.

He had a new HC/OC every 2-3 years his entire career with the Saints.

And he was the best quarterback in the NFC in the late 1970’s when he actually got some weapons in Chandler/Childs/Muncie/Galbreath.

Only real candidates are Brooks, Hebert, and Archie.

Love him or hate him, Brooks is 2nd in all categories behind Brees. Archie was probably better but his era and being on shitty teams really hurt him. Archie was really before my time so it’s hard for me to compare them accurately. Archie has more interceptions than touchdowns and Brooks won the Saints their first playoff game, so I’ll go with Brooks.

He was the Saints dumbest QB in history.

Hot Take. How would prime Teddy Bridgewater do?

When he first got his starts, there wasn't a more exciting QB I wanted to have. Tall, lanky scrambler/playmaker with an absolute gun that could pass for 400 yards. It was unheard of, as a Saints QB

Then they tried to make him a pocket game-manager handing off the ball the first two downs, and forcing him to convert on 3rd & long. No rhythm passing until the Saints were down and had to scrap the run & become one-dimensional. Then came the fumbles, INTs and some of the dumbest plays on record. The meat-head smiles afterwards were seemingly worse than the mounting losses.

He was the metaphorical Game of Thrones QB, who went from must-see TV to an unwatchable mess.

Pre injury Teddy really had potential, this is an interesting one, as is the Kerry Collins one.

Aaron Brook. He put up points. He had a bad record because of the awful defenses he played with. He may have been a little turnover prone, but that comes with putting up big numbers.

2nd best to wear the uniform was probably Jake Delhomme whose talent was wasted on the bench

That tends to happen when you throw backwards to one of your O linemen.

Prime Derrick Carr is way better than prime Bobby Hebert.

Our offense was terrible under Carl Smith and Hebert.

This is a weird way to arrive at the #2 all time Saints QB, but based on this, probably Kenny Stabler.

hopefully it'll be carr before he's done.

manning had a lot of potential, but this is a team sport so it's hard to say he's better than brooks even though they played in different eras and brooks had a decent team for a few years.

i think it woulda been jeff blake if haslett would've had a fair qb competition.
