You either have a franchise QB or you find a way to get one.

The Saints don’t have one this year nor is there one available. The only way to get one is to pool our assets (draft picks) and trade up in a future draft. Getting Carr does more to keep us from that future than it does to help us. I say we ride with Red and move toward a future franchise QB.

The team is not going to intentionally lose games. Pathetic

No one said intentionally lose games. Just don’t trade draft picks for a minimal upgrade in QB.

You don't need to suck to get a franchise QB. Mahomes was drafted 10th, Hurts 2nd round, Brees second round. Browns, Jets have sucked for the past 30 years and haven't got a QB. Continue to have a culture of winning, get good people and players around you and get one when the time is right. The Eagles and 49ers were playing in the NFC Championship with neither having an elite QB.

Sounds great. So when do we get rid of Dennis Allen, Pete Carmichael, Mickey Loomis and all the other CSP leftovers making short term moves to try and keep their jobs?

Getting rid of all of them is easy compared to getting a franchise QB. And it's much easier to hire the hottest coach on the market when your team isn't a steaming pile of shite. Tanking in the NFL so rarely works.

Dennis Allen doesn’t feel like getting fired after next year. All you need to know baw. He doesn’t have x amount of years to prove himself. Is what it is.

Okay ill play. Name a player you can pick in this years third round you think is a better player than a top 20 QB in the NFL?

You have to think long term, not short term. You need an accumulation of draft picks, not just one. And Carr is going to cost more money and with not a huge upgrade.

If everyone can stay healthy, the Saints will win 11 games minimum next year and the division... with or without Carr.

A 3rd or 4th isn't going to help you move up in the first round for a franchise QB no matter what year it is.

Seems to be the plan sadly. Hope it works in the win column.

Sure. You’re counting on the Saints strength and training staff to keep everyone healthy. Good luck.

You also still will have Dennis Allen and Pete Carmichael, who lost winnable games regardless of health. No reason the Saints should have lost in Tampa and that was largely because of coaching ineptitude that followed a run that was a yard short on second down by Mark Ingram.

Excellent post but we still don’t need to take up a big salary cap number & give away picks for Carr.

Teams that do this on a regular basis are generally some of the worst teams in the fricking league year after year.

Well, the Patriots had Drew Bledsoe, who they thought and planned to be their "franchise QB". He got hurt and they had to rely on an afterthought 7th rd rookie. Turned out that guy was pretty good.

Chargers got rid of Brees, who they'd taken in the 2nd rd a couple years before, in part because they could draft a "franchise QB". Even without his injury, Brees was going to be replaced.

Jalen Hurts was taken late in the 2nd rd.
Mahomes was taken with the 10th pick, Aaron Rodgers with the 24th pick.
Brett Farve was taken in the 2nd rd... by Atlanta, who listed him behind, among others, Billy Joe Tolliver. And they traded him after a year.

You just don't know who will be that "franchise" guy. Plenty of top picks have failed. The Colts thought they'd replaced Peyton Manning when they drafted Andrew Luck, then he up and retired before he turned 30.

There's no such thing as sitting and waiting for one to fall into your lap. You take a guy, and hope for the best.

Go 5-1 against NFC South
Go 2-2 against NFC North
Go 1-1 against NFC East/West 3rd Place teams
Go 1-4 against AFC

9-8 almost guarantees you an NFC South Championship and home playoff game.

Carr can get us there.

That sounds like tanking. For two seasons. Everyone gets fired in that scenario.
