such an idiotic take. Say what you want about Jameis the starter, but having a guy with his resume as your back up? Yeah I'll take that.

I don't understand the camp that is so opposed to this.

Kind of surprised he spurned the steelers though, guaranteed to get a few starts there when ben goes down with his annual injury.

I don't think many people realize how few QBs, even in this era, have thrown for 5k yards in a season.

I don’t think there are a lot of brothas that want to spend the year hanging in a QB room with Ben and Mason. I’d rather by in Charlottesville during a MAGA conference than do that for a year.

what's crazy that that Jameis can be both a buffoon in TB and a potential MVP in Nola

the whole point of kicking the tires is to see if we can rehabilitate him into the star he can be

if he stays the same, then he's gone with no cost. if he becomes our guy, he won't be the same guy we saw in Tampa Bay, so what's the problem?

That would have made sense a few years ago. Like a better version of Teddy. If Brees goes down this year, yeah he’s a really good backup option for sure.

My concern is that I thought whoever we brought in would be being groomed as the heir apparent to Brees, not simply his backup.

I’m not saying Payton can’t help him improve, but I do think it takes us in a completely different direction if he’s the future and I definitely have doubts that JW will ever be the kind of QB that can overcome his mental breakdowns and lead a team to a championship level.

Just my take on it

To me this goes basically one of 3 ways and none have any down side:
1) Jameis does Jameis things and he's gone when the contract is up.
2) He's a bridge to the true Drew heir.
3) Payton rehabs him and he is the future.

if you were looking for someone to be groomed now, he was the most available asset with the most potential to do just that. The draft just didn't have any that were attainable for us and really its rare you get someone with Winston's age and resume in the QB market....to be your back up. Again, can't wrap my head around how this upsets people. I don't have to like Jameis to see this as a win

I heard from a source that his vision issue was actually a piece of stolen crab leg stuck in his eyeball.

Teddy was less accomplished, less potential, and we had to give up draft capital to get....and people were giddy there.

Little known trivia but this is what he actually said when he jumped up on that table in the FSU lunchroom.

It’s fricking mind blowing. Despite his faults and picks the guy still threw for 5100 yards and 33 tds. Even if there is a 20 percent chance that CSP can mold that into 4500, 30-35 tds, and 15-20 picks it’s highly worth bringing a 26 year old former 1.1 on.

A guy whose ceiling is 5000 yds and 30tds is definitely someone you want a chance at improving. If Jameis can get the interceptions under control, he’s a perennial MVP candidate.

There’s only 7 QBs who have ever done that:
Brew Brees
Big Ben Rothlisburger
Dan Marino
Matt Stafford
Patrick Mahomes
Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
and Famous Jameis Winston

The people in charge of football teams don't harp on the nonsense or care about the stuff that message board posters do.

Exactly. We all love Teddy, but a big part of that giddiness over his play last year was the fact that we were genuinely surprised the team was undefeated during that stretch of the season.

Nobody should be surprised if, God forbid, Winston is pressed into service for one or more starts this season. He can and will score points in this offense; besides, if he has to start, we will see plenty of Taysom in those games (who can start if Jaemis somehow shits the bed, which I don't think he'd do to an extent that it would cost us the chance to win).

The dude is either going to soak in what Brees and Payton are doing and telling him or he won’t. He’ll see what a real Pro approach is, how to act more professional and not as immature. He’ll see Brees’ prep and realize that’s what it takes to be successful. Either that or he will act like that same ole Jameis. My guess is, he soaks in everything. He has to be humbled because of what happened in Tampa and the fact he’s now a backup. A take it as a sign of maturity that he knows he needs help and a learning opportunity in order to grow as a player.

It’s a low risk, very high reward. Payton could potentially turn this dude into a top 10 QB.
