Why is everyone hooked on Allen as the next HC he flopped as the Raiders HC?

Look at Zac Taylor with the Bengals. Didn't do shite until he got Burrow. In the NFL you can't win without a QB, good coach or no.

He took over before Al Davis body was cold.
His best player was a geriatric Carson Palmer and the franchise missed in every draft pick for like 3 straight years leading up to that.
It was a no win situation.

More than just the Raiders.......
Many coaches get fired at one location then excel at a later destination. It's almost like people learn along the way and many factors influence success.
Smarter people than our posters are making this decision, thankfully.

He took a job for a franchise that was trash. I don't know that that was going to work for anyone.
Allen's main assets are his defensive gameplans (against Brady and the Bucs, for example) and he keeps the cohesiveness in the building.
There's a roadmap to keeping this thing going. There is a lot to work with here, and Allen helps keep it all together.
What the Saints really need is a QB-minded OC/QB Coach and a new QB. And to keep Mike Thomas happy.

What you don’t see is that the raiders literally traded away all of their top draft picks prior to him getting there. He had nothing to work with and couldn’t rebuild. No idea why he took that job.

So did Pete Carroll… “he failed in the NFL once before” is not, by itself, a reason to not hire a guy. People learn and get better.

He’s been with our organization and knows it. It’s a “safe” hire for now

I sort of feel bad in a way for DA.
Took a job with the MESS of a Raiders organization.
Is a great DC and rebuilds his reputation.
Only to get a job with us where we have no QB, are picking in the late teens, and have a lot of cap issues (that can be dealt with, but still).
If we don't find a QB, he's in for another rough couple of years.

Continuity, specifically for the defense (since our offense sucked anyway).
Seems like the obvious choice unless the front office is thinking “blow it up”.
Just getting Michael Thomas back and say Jameis for a full year at QB and this current team would probably have a few more than 9 wins. At worst, losing Payton cancels out the re-addition of Thomas and Winston…
