What is the real reason he left the Saints and one year later looking to Coach another Team ? He basically had complete control of the entire organization with the Saints - including assistant coaches and players. Obviously he was not tired of coaching . He must have felt he had a better chance of being successful somewhere else, perhaps in a bigger market with more resources ?

Because he didn't want to live in a cesspool.

Because Brees retired, and he wanted a year vacation.

1. New Orleans sucks

2. He propped the window open a few extra years by mortgaging the next decade. The cap situation and roster construction is almost entirely at the feet of Payton demanding "one more piece"

No one knows the answer to this. Not sure what you are expecting from this thread besides a speculatory conversation which has already been discussed ad nauseam.

Because he helped Loomis destroy the cap and failed to get a QB so he wants to bounce from the mess he created

New Orleans sucks, he wasn't going to have a HOF quarterback anymore, the Saints are in cap hell every single year, and going to have at least a slight rebuild.

How about this theory ? He made an in depth assessment of the current situation with the Saints with which he helped create and came to this conclusion. Bad Salary cap problem- poor prospects for QB - poor roster for winning soon . All of this coupled with the fact that he was a hot coaching commodity who could almost pick and choose his next opportunity made the decision that he was better off coaching a better team with the years he had left.

Saints win at least 3 more games this season with Payton as head coach.

It seems every time Payton has discussed what he’d look for in a new organization he emphasizes good ownership and front office.

Something tells me that some sort of division developed between him and Loomis and/or Lauscha. I don’t think Gayle is involved enough in the football to be the issue.

1. Burnt out and needed a mental break.
2. if you don't have a chance of contention, with essentially needing a 3yr rebuild its tiring
3. New wife. Time. Nicer place to live and be.

I can keep going but that's enough

Every interview I’ve heard from him and even today on Fox pregame he tells you what he’s looking for in a new team. He wants great ownership and GM. Leads me to believe he thought the Saints have a bad owner and GM.
