When the Saints faced the Colts in the Super Bowl did you actually think they would win?

Saints were still a great team but the Colts were favored by 5 in the SB and finished the regular season 14-2 with their last 2 losses being the last 2 games where they had starters out.
What were your thoughts heading into that game?

Well I mean the Saints started 13-0 theirselves that year and their only 3 losses were the last 3 games of the season where 2 of those 3 losses the Saints had
Some of their starters out.

That whole season was a dream come true for long time saints fans. After watching them thru the season and thru the playoffs I thought they could win but would be a battle. That whole team seemed destined to win… and win they did.

I was there. I would not have gone had I not thought we were going to win.

I believe that we could win, but I just remember all the experts picking the Colts

Did I want the Saints to win? Absolutely
Would I have been sad if they had lost? Absolutely not... I got to see the Saints play in the Super Bowl
Many diehard Saints fans did not get this chance... and for those who I knew I was sad they did not to know that feeling
That said... I got to see the Saints play in & WIN the Super Bowl... it was the greatest of all worlds

They just felt like a team of destiny. I had no doubt they would win. Was overly confident, actually.
Felt the same way about lsu in 2011. It was just too good of a season for them not to win it all. We all know how that turned out…

Absolutely not.
I was just happy I had lived long enough to see them actually playing in a Super Bowl.
Winning was gravy.

I knew we had a good chance because of our offense and our ability to play from behind.

Leading up to the NFCCG, I didn't think they'd beat the Vikings.
Leading up to the onside kick, I didn't think they'd beat the Colts.
After the onside kick, I began to party like they already won, because I finally knew.

I felt we would win but Manning definitely worried me pregame. I remember their defensive end (forget name) had a bad foot injury or something and wasn’t 100%. You could tell in the 1st Q our players were playing nervous but they settled down

Nah. If I’m being completely honest I thought we had gotten pretty fortunate to get past the Vikings and thought manning would just kinda find a way.

I won't sit here and say that I was smoldering with confidence going into the game, but I liked our chances and knew we certainly had more of a shot than most of the mainstream media was giving us.
One thing to remember about that 2009 Colts team is that even though they were effectively undefeated (14-0 in games they didn't rest starters) they hadn't looked all that impressive on a game by game basis. They were actually very similar to the Chiefs this year in that they were playing some very close games most of the year (9 of their 14 wins were by one score or less). Don't get me wrong, winning is winning no matter how you do, but it wasn't like they were some juggernaut that was just dragging teams week after week.
One thing that gave me hope was the Patriots game. Both teams played the Pats that year and both played at home in a dome. The Colts beat the Patriots by one point and had to stage a pretty furious fourth quarter comeback to do so (that was the game Belichick infamously decided to go for it on 4th down from their own 28 late in the 4th quarter with a 6 point lead). The Saints, on the other hand, absolutely skullfricked the Patriots that year. 38-17 was the final, but it wasn't that close. Brees had 371 yards (on only 23 attempts) with 5 TD passes and a perfect passer rating. Belichick ended up crying UNCLE midway through the 4th and pulling his starters, something he almost NEVER did.
Obviously you can't always use a transitive property in football to determine how teams will stack up against each other using a single common opponent, but that Patriots game showed that when the 2009 Saints were clicking they were capable of pouring it on anyone in the league.

I was hopeful but not particularly optimistic…
I wasn’t truly confident until Porter’s interception. I got so excited my new dog bit me on the sss because I startled the crap out of him.

I truly did. I thought the NFC championship was the two best teams that year. Vikings were a really strong team.

My brothers went to the Super Bowl, I chose to stay home and watch with my parents. I didn't want to be trapped out there if/when we lost.
It worked out great, my dad and I watched the game with his pet boxer. We were drinking Shiner Bocks that game, and every time something good happened, Dad poured his dog another beer in his bowl. The dog loved the game as much as we did

Tracy Porter needs to be in the Saints HOF. I don't care about the rest of his career (which wasn't bad), he made the 2 biggest plays in team history. The Favre pick, and the Manning pick.

Of course I knew. Anyone that really follows nfl knew.

Wasn’t sure they would win until the clock hit zeroes, even though we won by two tuds

The Colts had this Edge rusher that I though might disrupt the Saints Offense. Once it was clear that he was injured enough to slow down his game, I felt good about the Saints chances in the SB.
It was a great year, but, I don't think we'll see another one like it for the New Orleans Saints or for their fans.

At first yes, but after they lost 3 straight, I thought no.
I was more confident we'd win in 2011,2017,2018 and 2020.
