What's the point of adding Watson if you gut the team with no chance to reload?

Some of the names and picks being tossed around...Would cripple this team.
And without the pics, you can't even reload.
Screw that. Just keep as many good players as you can and sign Winston.

We would essentially be banking on the years after we got the picks back

We’re having a good discussion on this in the “here are some names on the block” thread… you should join us

Since when did two players and 4-5 picks gut the team? This team was half a game back from the playoffs with Taysom Hill. We’re likely NFC title favorites with Watson.

Maybe, but Davenport and Williams are 2 huge losses

How are there people left who don’t realize you need a top tier QB?
Watson is a 26 year old franchise QB.

This is a five to 10 year plan.

Doubt that's watson's plan. He wants to win

We will survive giving up late round 1sts
The saints aren’t trading Ram or Lat. Everyone else has an apt replacement already on the roster

The Ruiz and Payton Turner picks could make a lot more sense real quick

The Rams haven't had a first round pick in what seems like a decade. I love building through the draft, but it's not the only way.

No chance to reload? Have you not been paying attention to the Saints drafts since 2016? They've been money in rounds 2-4

Didnt the Rams just prove you dont need firsts to win the super bowl?

Bit of an overreaction. Ram can't be moved because his cap hit would be as big as Watson's. The other players mentioned
Ruiz/McCoy: You can find a new center outside of the 1st round
Davenport/Onyemata: Can argue Davenport's replacement may already been on the team, it would just weaken the depth chart. IMO, Onyemata would hurt more than Davenport

I think Davenport would be the headliner player to go with the picks. Someone from the interior OL whether it be McCoy Ruiz or Peat
I do think Houston’s main focus are the picks

What don’t you people understand? If you don’t have a franchise Qb, you have nothing if your goal is to make a run at a super bowl

Fair point, and even an argument made to whether or not he's worth a large contract investment due to his injury history and missing games each year.

Cannot agree with you here. This defense is way different with Davenport in the lineup each of the last 2 years. When Onyemata has missed games to injury or suspension, while his presence was missed somewhat, it's not near the same impact as when Davenport is gone. Also look how we are able to backfill Onyemata with undrafted free agents and not have much of a drop off, we cannot say the same for our DEs.

You're also losing M. Williams though.
Take Williams and Davenport off the D and we go from top 5 to middle of the pack maybe worse.

...therefore, overpay for a guy whose future in the NFL was so tenuous a week ago that nobody was willing to go after him, and his own team wouldn't play him?
You can't be simple minded. You need a QB AND a supporting cast AND salary cap management to give you chances to make a run. You can't throw all of our eggs in only 1 of those baskets. It doesn't work.
