What do we do with our OL moving forward?

Clearly Ruiz sucks. No need to discuss that further.

Our young tackles have shown flashes of promise but Fuaga has regressed bigly and Banks didn't take a big step this year (limited data prior to injury doesn't mean that conversation is over).

Our big FA signing, Edwards, has a sub-70 PFF grade.

It's not possible to invest in OL more than we have, and our OL is a joke. Are we at the point where we have to start over? Is some McCoy health luck + getting a legit RT and moving Fuaga all we need?

Is this a coaching issue? Scheme?

Seems like what you typed out indicates a scheming and coaching issue.

Could be talent evaluation but ultimately think it’s scheme and coaching. The only time our oline has looked good in the past several years was the stretch under Kubiak before injuries decimated the team.

Kellen may have had the best olines in the league in Dallas and Philly when he was successful as OC. Something we probably should have clocked, he’s never had to make do with even a mediocre o-line.

And then there’s coaching. Falcons brought in Bill Callahan and now all their olinemen look great. I don’t know who our oline coach is but they aren’t Bill Callahan.

We also have the worst RB room in the league which hurts because when we do block run plays well they go for four yards max and if we don’t block them
Perfectly they go for negative yardage. Olinemen will tell you how hard it is to constantly pass block and that ties into the scheme issue of dlinemen are just teeing off on pass rush every play because there’s no threat of the run

With the amount of investment in the O line we’ve had it better be a real strength if not dominant.

Ours is nowhere near that so not only does the O line hurt you but other groups are short as well. Maybe Fuaga eventually slides to guard but I don’t think you can spend another high pick on a tackle.

At some point we need to hit on solid starters that aren’t a premium cost.

I have never seen a team with as much "talent" on the line struggle so much constantly. I don't believe another team has rolled out two 1st round tackles, a 1st round guard, a 2nd round center and a top rated FA guard and look like they are playing with practice squad players.

We spend so much time talking about how much Ruiz sucks but he and Edwards both have a 63.3 grade on PFF

Which is another indictment on scheme. Edwards isn’t a young player who needs to be coached up and he didn’t just have a huge drop off in 3 games.

What was the change in moving from Buffalo to NO? Scheme and game planning. We aren’t putting players in a position to succeed

This is the most disappointing position group on the team. All these high picks and “mediocre” seems to be the unit’s high water mark, with plenty of scary bad thrown in there. I wish I knew what to do, but I hope they try to do it through trades, FA signings, and low round picks. If we are going to have a mediocre OL, let’s do it for cheaper.

It's blocking scheme more than anything else. Probably need to look more at Brendan Nugent (OL coach). But losing Banks was a big blow and Etienne being down hurts big time.

Why we continue to insist on keeping Kendre Miller is perplexing when Estime was more reliable as a runner.

But, if our defense just lays down like it has for the past 6 quarters all you are going to get is a lot of Air Shough. You won't be able to adequately establish a run game.....and your offensive drives will start to stall out around the 30 -35 yard line.

Defense is 10X more of a problem than the offensive line. Defense is downright offensive. To quote John McKay when asked about defensive execution, " I'm all for it."

Remove the line. Bench them all. Give Shough a 3 Mississippi rule for defenses. It can't be worse

Go back in time and draft Amarius Mims over Fuaga. Hell I’d take Tyler Booker over banks at this point. At least he plays with an edge. Our unit is meek

They need to start taking more swings on OL in the middle rounds of the draft. We cannot settle for the depth we have, it can wreck a season as we are witnessing now.

And nugent has worked with top OLs before. These guys also worked with Jahri and Armstead a bunch. Hard to believe it’s coaching. I think I’m questioning the personnel and scheme fit

I said this in another thread. Something with the O Line HAS to change!

Banks and Edward’s were solid. The drop off from Banks to Richardson is like the Mariana trench. Not much we can do about that.

I’d move Fuaga to LT and see if he just plays better there with Edwards. At least have a strong side of the line.

Take out Ruiz and let Wright play. I don’t care how high you drafted him. I don’t care how much you pay him. Ruiz has to go!

Bring in PS guys and prison guards and MMA fighters and big dudes from the gym and anyone you can think of to try out for RT.

Fire Brendan Nugent. Full stop, send a message to the OL that this kind of play gets people fired. I can’t see how it gets any worse at this point no matter who you bring in. What’s Kevin Mawae doing these days?

That's talent + scheme though. Easily identifiable.

There is nowhere near the same investment on D like our OL

And don't forget you spent another 1st on Penning. So really, you've invested 4 firsts and a high second in 5 years into your offensive line and you still suck.

Just think of the cost you've sunk into that group that you'd hope would be absolutely elite given the capital invested and consider the other positions that haven't been addressed in the first round in that timeframe. It makes it all the more egregious.
