Was anyone else encouraged by what they saw from Book last night?

Thought he showed some nice mobility and had some nice throws late in the game. Obviously a mistake on the INT, but overall playing with backups, i thought he flashed some good stuff.
Could see him developing into the main backup, if not a starter one day.

No, and I do not know why they drafted him in the fourth round.

I thought he showed no signs of being an NFL starter.

Mobility? Wtf?

I think people underestimate Book to his advantage. He is not going to be flashy, but what he will be is someone who won't lose games. He will take a sack on second down instead of trying to force an errant pass whereas Jameis has a history of throwing picks. I think the 3rd preseason game is where you will get a better read of what he is capable of.

Most 4th round picks for a QB in NFL will come in and show brilliance and slowdown. Books did not show anything. Big waste of a pick.

Well, if obviously has some football smarts, but not up to the speed of the NFL. That should improve with reps. Think he showed enough to make the practice squad and continue to develop. The verdict is still out for the long term.

He’ll make the team. Not a practice squad guy

Not to the degree that the folks in the game thread saying he’s going to be the starter and he’s the second coming of Drew Brees were…. Seems like he’s good at throwing screens though

There was good and there was bad. He seemed to have a high football IQ, but was off the mark a few times. Just needs more work to get timing down.

Most of Brees repertoire was his ability with short to intermediate passes. Yeah he could get a big play in, but he was known for his ability to methodically get you down the field and let the receivers and running backs do the majority of the work. Most of Michael Thomas' receptions are 6 to 8 yards. Pierre Thomas took Brees screens and turned them into big plays. Same with Sproles and Kamara on pass plays.

Payton's schemes are about ball control and high percentage throws.....and historically great offensive lines.

I was encouraged by his poise but he does have a weak arm.

Yes.

For a first pro game at the hardest position to play he looked poised. And that is very hard to do gentleman.

On the interception he had a player closing in on him to make a hit he stood there and took the hit and most likely that's why the ball was a little under thrown.

He did take that one awful sack but he was keeping his eyes down the field trying to find something.

He'll learn you can't hold on to the ball that long.

but it also shows that he's got a certain discipline to him keeping his eyes down the field

Chase Daniel 2.0. Which is not a bad thing but not a future reliable starter.

This is asinine. Book was the only QB picked in the 4th this year but the 3rd rders, who I guess are supposed to show dominance since they were picked even higher, Mond went 6-16 for 53 yds and Davis Mills went 11-22 for 112 yds.

I wanted to be encouraged by Ian Book last night.

Only one part of one game , but I didn’t see anything special.

Best case is he looks a lot better next game, Jamie’s starts , and Taysom plays Rb/wr/te because CSP isn’t too nervous about taysom getting hurt as the only backup qb.
