Maybe the bears will trade us Yannick if their team is dead in the water at the deadline. Dude has been traded more than Brandon Cooks.

I know there will be the regular assholes who laugh and call him a bust and a wasted pick, but that was a freak injury and it really sucks for both him and the Saints.

Granted, it took longer than we all wanted for him develop as a 1st rounder (though we did overdraft him and it came with maybe a little unfair and an unrealistic time table on his development), but word out of camp was that he was finally healthy and had taken huge strides and was gonna be a big contributor this year. His not starting was less to due with him and more to with the huge camp that Granderson had. And that was obviously legit as it carried over into the huge game Carl had yesterday. It just sucks.

I hate it more for Turner—it’s got to be a big psychological blow as much as a physical one. Hopefully he can be back for the last half, 1/4 of the season, but we’ve seen how these injuries can go, how surgeries can be botched or rehab not go right. So fingers crossed.

But it’s also a blow to the Saints, obviously. Luckily, we drafted Foskey who’s already on the roster and was a healthy scratch, so we can just dress him and add somebody else to the 53 at a position that we might need more depth at. Now, it’s obviously not great that our 2nd rounder was a healthy scratch, but he’s got the physical traits
(6’5” 265 /4.48 40) and college production (22 sacks and 7 forced fumbles his final 2 years) against high level completion. I think we’ve been asking him to play the position differently than he did at Notre Dame, and he hasn’t picked it up quite as quickly as everybody would have liked. But like Penning, the best way to speed up development is to be thrown in there and play actual NFL football.

Hopefully Granderson stays healthy and continues to play well and Foskey’s role can be limited to just spelling Carl throughout the game to keep him fresh. He’s not ready to be counted on to rush the passer at the level we need from the edge on that side, but he’s big and strong enough to at least be able to play the run and set the edge on early downs. That should be his role early—play disciplined in setting the edge and gap sound in the run game. Don’t try to do too much and get sucked up and burned on the edge for big outside runs. And as long as Granderson stays healthy, they can just gradually add things to his plate, and by the end of the year he should be a lot more well rounded than he would have been being the 5th DE who never played.

There comes a point in time where one has to accept that some bodies are just fragile no matter what their build, or potential may be.

Turner has one of those bodies unfortunately for the Saints and him.

I agree. But it happens to players on all teams, we’re just much more attuned to it when it happens to our guys. I just don’t like when people criticize the organization for not having a crystal ball. And I like it even less when we criticize the player like it’s some sort of character flaw. We’ve got the biggest, fastest players on planet earth colliding with each other on every play. Sometimes shite just happens.

And the bad luck we’ve had with Davenport and Turner could be seen as the balance to the incredible good luck we’ve had with the freakish anomaly that is Cam, who hasn’t missed a game due to injury in 12 seasons and somehow looks to not have even had any significant drop off from his prime.

Granderson

Is turning into the player we drafted on pure potential. He was drafted in the 5th though. IMO, you NEVER reach for a guy like this in the first round. Already had injury history

Granderson was undrafted because he raped someone (allegedly)

Well I don't know about all that. Players get hurt but at the end of the day players are paid to play. IMO Turner is at the end of his leash and if he misses significant time this season he won't be back. It's just how it is.

Like I said it sucks for all parties but sometimes players bodies just don't work. Turner is in that category.

And yes, I don't think blaming the player or team for drafting him is warranted in this situation. Not every dream works out but I will blame the team for not moving on to someone who can be counted on to be on the field it this turns out ot be another injury shortened season for him.

The reason why we have so many of these guys on the lines is b/c that's exactly the bodies we go for. Tall, huge, super athletic guys typically have bodies that can't support all that physical potential 100% of the time. It is what it is.

There's a reason why Turner, Davenport, Armstead, etc. were always hurt.

It's not a terrible strategy unless you start reaching for guys, which is the problem with Turner and Davenport. 3 first rounders spent and 1/3-1/2 games missed and no 2nd contract.

I’d bet he’s done for the season. Turf toe is one of those things that doesn’t heal quickly due to lack of blood flow and is prone to re-injury.

Isn’t that what got MT too?
