I'm not out on Hoooker. I don't think I like it at 40. Realize that Winston is only under contract for 1 more year. But, there are flyers that can be taken in the 5th for a 3rd QB.

Just horrible examples to compare to the Saints and Carr. Romo and Rogers were both over 35 years old and perceived to be at the end of their careers (though Rodgers bounced back after the pick). Mahomes was a top 10 pick to replace a limited starter the Chiefs were ready to move on from. Rivers was drafted after Brees had a potentially career-ending shoulder injury following a sub-par season, a decision the Chargers regretted for years.

Purdy was literally Mr. Irrelevant, the last pick of the 7th round. Not comparable to passing on an impact player in the early 2nd to draft your 3rd string QB. The Jalen Hurts pick is probably the only possible comparable, but the Eagles probably knew at that time what the rest of the league figured out over the next few seasons - Wentz was a fraud and a locker room pariah.
I'm fine with the Saints picking a QB in rounds 4+, but passing on a probable starter in the 2nd round with our needs and aging roster for Hooker? Nuts.

Agree with all that except Rivers was drafted before Brees injury. The injury was the excuse for the Chargers to move on to Rivers who they'd drafted after Brees first couple years were underwhelming - Drew was actually benched for Doug Flutie the season before Rivers' draft. Then he turned into the Drew we know and made the Rivers pick look stupid.
All that said, the Saints drafting Hooker in the early 2nd would be beyond dumb and not comparable to any of the examples the morons on this board are giving.

The Saints never pick the consensus guy on the board. I think they go with a prototype DE. Keion White, Jalen Redmond or Isiah Foskey.

If Steve Avila is there he will be the pick. He can play every position on the line and that’s something the Saints always pick.

White and Foskey can play inside on the D-Line. I think they are just as likely to be picked as Avila.

Not a bad point. They do like guys that can play multiple OL positions.

I'd still go OG, DE, LB, RB in no specific order. Runningbacks will be available in the 3rd or 4th. I could see us packaging all late round picks to move back up into top 100.

Our 4th should be enough to move up to Detroit at 34 (who supposedly wants to accumulate more later picks). If someone like Mayer, Torrence or Branch were still there, I could see the Saints making that kind of move.

Exactly what tye Saint need to make the transition away from MT13 in 2024. Plus he's insurance for when Thomas's toe gets a hang nail.

Purdy was a 7th round pick, no one cares if the Saints a take a QB in the 7th round.
Hooker is already already 25 years old, it would be monumentally stupid for a team with habitual cap issues and other glaring holes on the roster to take a 25 yo rookie QB in the 2nd round after signing Carr for $100M guaranteed

Banking on Thomas staying healthy is risky as frick. Olave is better as a number 2. Shaheed as a 3/4. Could definitely see WR.
