Thoughts on our Redshirt receivers

I keep seeing people say that we have to go wide receiver in the first, but perhaps we've got some hidden gems on the bench. I'm curious what everyone else's thoughts are on Palmer, Polk, etc...

Theres no such thing as redshirt in the pros.

We have to go O-line They going to get Shough killed back there if not

We can get a starting guard in the second or third round.

I think the Saints believe they have their bookend tackles with Banks & Fuaga. Banks has played well for a rookie. Fuaga’s transition to the right side hasn’t been perfect BUT he’s been dealing with injuries all year. Fixing the interior of the line will do wonders. Sign a guard in FA and draft one in maybe the 2nd or 3rd round.

IMO, Guard is the position that you pay a premium for in FA. The crop is strong and with our tackles on rookie contracts for at least the next 3 years, you could sign a stud LG for 20 million and your line allocation would be fine.
If you are truly investing in Shough, you would have an all-pro Center, bookend tackles and a top guard in that scenario. You can draft another guard in the middle rounds to compete with Ruiz, but you would have an absolutely solid line in this case.

Have you looked at the fa class for guards? Theres only one really good one and he’s been out most of the year. Everyone else decent is in their mid 30’s and not worth it.
Gonna have to draft one this year.

decent guards in mid 30's won't break the bank.

We don't have a WR1. We have a WR2 and a bunch of serviceable 3's and 4's. If a bona fide WR1 is on the board when we are drafting, we need to pounce.

Olave and Vele are 2s. We do need a true 1 though.

Wouldn't this be an ideal option for a 3-5 year deal? You get your other guard in the draft to battle with Ruiz. The 30 y/o OG starts for the next 1-2 years, then you draft his eventual replacement. And around that time you will either have Fuaga on his 5th year option, or you just extended him with Banks about to start his 5th year option

I know what youre doing.
Its just stupid.
ESPN did it one time with Hannah Storm saying "should the dolphins redshirt Tua".
It was stupid, like your post.

Right?
And we desperately need not just starters but quality depth on the bench. I'm tired of seeing us reshuffle the entire oline because of a injury.
Do you have access to team player grades such as they are? Curious on everyone but especially the oline.

Palmer is down the depth chart wr. Not much upside but not a terrible player.
Polk was a stud in college. Could end up being a very valuable WR to go along with Olave and Vele.
But saints still need another starting caliber NFL wide receiver. As well as RB, iOL,DT, DB, LB, TE etc…. Just go best player available in the draft, which I don’t think will be a WR in the first.

We totally need a Jamar Chase instead of an OL! (I don’t think there is a Chase in this draft.)
I’m not saying we have a #1 WR or that we don’t need one. I’m saying protecting our QB is more important. Get Boston, Brazzell or Lane in the second. Protect the QB and improve running lanes is a better investment.

They would show it in practice and would likely be playing in games.

I think our situation is not remotely close to Cincinnati’s. Joe Burrow is on a huge contract and so are his receivers. Shough is on a rookie contract. If Shough can play well the next 2-3 years we have a window to do a lot of good things especially with him being older and more mature than the typical rookie.

Polk is on IR I believe.
Joe has been sacked 201 times in 71 games. This is Carr-Luck level of a beatdown. It ends careers early and prevents playoff success.
I don't want that for any Saints QB. That's the similarity.

I would argue Vele has established himself as a solid #2. That gives us a high-end 2 (Olave) and a mid-tier 2 (Vele).
Don’t want to pay Olave #1 money so I’d send him packing this offseason bc I’d bet he and his agent will push to get more than I’d like to pay him
