It should have started six years ago when Brees was essentially finished.

Maybe Loomis' boss said "I dont want a hard rebuild" and he did what was asked.....?

Loomis does not have a boss, that is the main problem with the Saints organaization.

You dont replace a hall of fame when they retire. Their replacement should already be in the building. Thats how dynasties are built.

How many examples of this are there? 2 at best maybe? Montana to Young was a completely different era with no cap and very limited free agency. GB got 2 titles and 3 SB appearances with Favre and Rodgers over 25+years, hardly a dynasty

Now this kids is 20/20 hindsight.
Brees last 2 seasons the Saints were 13-3 and 12–4, they were legit contenders. You only say Brees was essentially finished because they flamed out in the playoffs.

2021, the year after Brees retired they still had a very good roster, it was worth giving it a go and see if Payton could do something with Winston. After Payton left is when the rebuild should have started

It only started now because Loomis failed so bad.

He had no intention of doing this.

We were basically in the same spot as Tampa bay but a bit worse on the cap.

Difference is, they have been having better drafts.

Their cap was not great but they did exactly what I said we should have did years ago.

Instead of doubling down and going deeper in cap hell to sign a mid qb. They went cheap at qb and signed Baker. Got their cap straight and built up the team around him and resurrected his career.

Loomis fricked us with his poor drafts and decision making.
