Sean Payton checked out the last three years he was coach of the Saints. He spent no more than one hour to an hour and a half each day at the Saints facility. He wanted to leave the Saints, but Loomis would do whatever it took to bring him back. Now, that laminated play calling card that Payton held doing the game was all done by Pete Carmichael. Let me remind you, the Saints broke NFL offensive records while Pete Carmichael was the coordinator. What happened this year was not on Carmichael, but on the front office of the New Orleans Saints headed by Mickey Loomis.

The drafting the past five years has been horrendous, but Loomis' biggest mistake has been the signing of Carr. Let me ask this question. Did Loomis watch ten, twenty, thirty, or forty Raider games that Carr started? Did he? Carr was cut by the Raiders !!!! Honestly, after watching Carr the first six games this season I believe the majority of football fans knew the Saints had made a terrible mistake.
I hope to God that I am wrong, but I believe the Saints are in big trouble unless they get lucky in this draft.

We have a front office that compares Dennis Allen to Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, and Bill Walsh. Loomis has lost his mind! Unless the Mrs. Benson cleans house from Loomis on down, this club will suffer several years of losing. It's all on Loomis in my opinion.

Find this hard to believe outside of him wanting out.

There is such a thing as evolving offenses and the game leaving some behind. Defenses may have just figured him out and he didn’t adjust. Simple.

You cannot possibly have watched any games this year and think that the playcalling from resembled anything from the Payton era.

Yeah, Drew Brees has nothing to do that. Nor did the guy actually calling the plays. The glorified QB coach...he was the key to success.

So you didn't watch the last 6 games. This is not to say that Carr is the answer, but he did improve drastically.

I can see the report from Adam Schefter: "Sources tell ESPN that the Saints made the change at GM due to a random quote from the post year press conference."

quote:

this club will suffer several years of losing

You do realize of course that the Saints finished at 9-8, and the only reason they are not in the playoffs is that Tampa's 9 wins just happened to be against a better set of teams for tiebreaker purposes than the Saints 9 wins. Then again, I thought we wanted the Saints to lose so they could get better draft position. Which one is it? Make up your minds.

Let me explain this again as I have to people before. Pete Carmichael is a talented and innovative play designer. Sean Payton is an exceptionally good and often unpredictable playcaller. Sean called the plays. The plays he called were Pete's plays. This is a case where the whole was greater than the sum of the parts.

Watch Sean Payton swoop in and pick up Pete Carmichael again.

Not wholly but his playcalling was suspect at best and bad quite often.

quote:

Carr was cut by the Raiders !!!!

And the Chargers moved on from Drew Brees in favor of another QB. So what. And no, I was not a fan of the Carr signing.

Loomis is one of the people that Tom trusted and that Gayle was essentially told to lean on for running the Saints. He isn't going anywhere.

The fact that you wrote,

Makes it obvious that you don’t know,

The real story !!

Loomis is basically part owner. He’s not going anywhere. Ever. Unless he promoted or made outright owner.

quote:

You got a link or anything to back this up? We know he was ready for a change, but he did some good work to squeeze out the wins we got with Trever Siemien and Ian Book at QB.

quote:

Carmichael isn’t the play caller that Payton is. Some plays Carmichael had weren’t bad…but a lot were. Not much motion, WRs being in the same area, QBs and WRs not being on the same page, long plays called when our protection sucked. A lot of that is on the OC.

quote:

The drafting the past five years has been horrendous,

Absolutely. Drafting has been bad since 2017. Bresee looks like a good one. Olave has talent but has been a head case this year. Werner, Taylor and Adebo are good. But the 1st round misses and lack of depth are a big part of the problem. I think development is an issue too.

quote:

but Loomis' biggest mistake has been the signing of Carr. Let me ask this question. Did Loomis watch ten, twenty, thirty, or forty Raider games that Carr started? Did he? Carr was cut by the Raiders !!!!

McDaniels wanted Carr gone and now he’s out. Raiders fans weren’t happy he left and I think it’s safe to say the players weren’t happy he left either.

Carr isn’t the biggest problem on this team. He’s an average to above average QB. He will make one or two great plays a game, one or two terrible plays a game and just kind of be a guy the rest of the time. It doesn’t have to be an extreme that he’s an all-pro or he sucks. It’s somewhere in the middle.

quote:

I believe the Saints are in big trouble unless they get lucky in this draft.

I agree with this. We HAVE to hit on this draft. There’s good depth in this draft and we have to identify talent and develop talent this year because of our cap situation and the age of our best players. That’s why I’m against moving up to draft a QB. We have too many other needs.

The poor offensive play calling was 100% on Pete Carmichael.
