Not interior OL issues.

3rd sack comes on a 3step drop out of shotgun where Brees holds the ball because no one is open.

Watching the game last night, Brees holding the ball because no one was open was a much much much much much bigger issue.

In fact the biggest OL issue was the RT tackle continuously getting beat in that game.

I don't think there is any doubt that pass catchers and playmakers is an issue for us. There is still time.

And here are both tackles getting abused

Armstead getting mauled

This is the biggest play of the game. Ram gets worked by Hunter for sack-fumble

I know bunch, and i get in trouble looking at one pick in a vacuum without seeing the rest of them, but shite.

I feel that if the Saints had a 2nd round pick this year, this probably would not have been the pick in the 1st.

But of course, they dont have a 2nd because they traded it to draft another iOL

Jesus Christ our OL was trash that game. Minnesota’s front was good but you’d think they had Aaron Donald and JJ Watt

Their ends are really good, especially Hunter.

But the perception that the interior of the line was the problem is just false

There are so many freaking WRs in this draft, they already vastly upgraded at WR2 with Sanders in my mind. They could still sign a guy like Gabriel.

And go for a guy with playmaking upside in the middle rounds.

Linebacker is a priority agreed, but the *TOP* priority is keeping Brees healthy for the whole season. We don't have a solid back up for Brees, Taysom Hill is not the answer sorry. The best thing we could have done in round 1 was to improve our interior line for the running game, and protecting Brees. Obviously LB and CB are our next biggest concern moving forward.

Ram for sure struggles in big games. Hopefully this season he will lose those big game jitters

Our interior did struggle badly, the entire Oline was awful against Minny

The best drafting LB team in the last 20yrs took Patrick Queen

It was a nice pick. Hats off to both parties. But they had the best record in the AFC last year and could afford a sexier pick.

With their 2nd pick. They went DL with their 1st and had the advantage of not only having 2 1st rounders, but they started with their 1st one 11 slots higher than ours. And they were the #1 seed in the NFC. Now, you can argue that’s why those teams had the #1 seeds—good drafting, and that’s fair. I do think Lynch “won” the 1st round. But they were in position to be a little more risky.

quote:

Both bigger needs than Guard or Center

Well that Saints insider chick specifically said before the draft she didn’t think we were taking a WR. Or even LB. She mentioned CB, OL, or RB. Said we were drafting value, not need. Clearly Payton values OL at the top of the draft. And clearly they are really down on Warford.

I’m not gonna act like I wasn’t disappointed with the pick in the moment and still pretty “meh.” But I think it’s clear the plan is for Ruiz to start (I think at C and move McCoy to RG), and move on from Warford with Eason (and maybe a mid rounder) backing up both guard spots and using whatever money we save to fill some more holes with vet FAs.

I’m with BilJ, our offense got absolutely dominated in the middle up front by the Vikings. We had no answer for their front 4. Who cares if we go 13-3 again and set a ton of regular season records if our season ends again in the Dome because we can’t score points against teams with dominant fronts.

Lastly, I think this move indicates Payton is in it long-term. If he was thinking of moving on post-Brees, I think he would have probably traded up for a sexier pick. This is a longer-term move, solidifying the OL for the next 5+ years assuming Ram agrees to an extension. I also wonder if Derick Brown to the Panthers affected our thinking as well.

Solid post and definitely agree. All this “win now mode” bullshite is just that. CSP and Ireland take who they feel can contribute now and in the future. McCoy, RR, Ruiz will anchor our line for another 8-10 years.

Simply not true. Scroll up a little bit. The Saints' tackles were the problem.

And again, I like the player.

In order for it to be a "need", the Saints must make corresponding moves.

If that comes, we can re-evaluate, but with the info we know now, I just don't love it.

Offensive tackle would have made more sense then. Cause Armstead is always hurt, his contract is coming up, and is easily cuttable after this season, if i recall

WR has been a glaring issue and cost them the last two seasons.

Apparently there wasn’t an OT worth a number 24 pick for. And possibly there was nobody willing to trade with the Saints.

The post June 1 cap hit for Armstead next year is $4.5MM, with over $9MM in savings

Good chance this is Terrons last season

It’s still widely known the interior struggled that game Lester. Cherry picking those plays doesn’t change that
