Charles grant was a middle tier (if that) DE in the NFL and he was paid like he was one of the best
Carl Nicks was the best guard in all of pro football...bar none. THE BEST.
So I'm not sure how he avoided that situation because he turned around and gave a lot of money to grubbs (who is average) and Nicks only sucked and is out of the league because poppy is sloppy

I've given up on speculating.
The saints have been pretty unpredictable this off-season.

cruz, randle, picks, whatever
I really trust in the plan for this offseason. I've never had more confidence. Whatever it is, I bet it will be a good deal that helps us make this a better team.
meanwhile, I'm going to dream...O B J

other than grubbs going, no one really saw any of this coming
So I'll sit back and wait patiently and just be excited about the possibilities (even if they're 99.99999999999999999999% likely to not happen)

I don't want to lose Galette, Jordan, or Lewis.
Those seem pretty critical to our success.
I'm OK with Evans going.
And... Uh... Lorig.

I just want to throw out there, that Cruz isn't guaranteed to comeback as the same type of player after tearing his patellar tendon in his knee. It's not an easy injury to return from especially for a player who game relies on speed & the ability to change direction on a dime.

quote:
Recovering from a torn patellar tendon is difficult and takes time. One of the most important prognostic factors for recovery is the time to surgery, and surgery delayed beyond a few weeks can limit recovery ability. It is known that early mobility after surgery, protected strengthening, and preventing excessive stress on the repair will speed overall recovery. Even with these steps, there is a minimum of 3 months until return of normal daily activities, and 4-6 months until sports should be resumed.
While most people heal completely from a patellar tendon surgery, there can be long-term weakness even with a successful repair.
The torn ends of the tendon need to be sewn together. The difficulty lies in the fact that it is important to restore proper tension to the tendon, not making it too tight or too loose. Also, it can be difficult to get a good repair, especially if the tendon has torn directly off the bone. In these situations, the sutures used to repair the tendon may have to be attached through the bone.

I said that
I don't know what his cap numbers are
I don't know anything about his recovery
just as a player he seems to fit. I honestly don't know what to expect. We're kind of zeroed in on the giants. if we make another trade I wouldn't rule out any team

someone mentioned the giants and we havent looked back since
but like you said, it could be any team. we have no clue with how things have gone.

I don't think we would trade anyone on defense since that's what we are trying to improve. Unless it's Bush or Vaccaro

After all, don't Flacco and Ryan have bigger cap hits than Brees' current contract?
Nope. Brees cap hit is only 2nd to Romo.

every move this offseason has been to make the team better first and foremost. Obviously the cap has to be and has been considered, but we're still in bad cap shape.
Hopefully any trade clears up that cap, but I'll be bummed if it doesn't make us a better team or put us in position to be a better team (fair compensation in the form of a draft pick)
we've stockpiled picks, we have 2 1s...I hope we can make a move where we are on the receiving end of the big name in a blockbuster trade. likely? no, but can't a guy dream?

Why is a "league source" commenting to a reporter about the specific moves of one individual team?

Assuming the team has to find almost $7M (to get under the cap and rookie pool money), there has to be one more big deal to go.
If Evans is traded or cut, that gets you half way there. Trading Cam gets you all the way there. Could end up that both happen.

Im not a fan of getting rid of lewis or jordan. There are other was to get under the cap that dont involve losing our 2 best defensive players.

If the SAINTS trade for a high priced WR I'll be very disappointing. We have serviceable WRs and have drafted WRs very well.
Everyone knows our needs and a stellar WR isn't one of them.

If you can draft a stellar WR though, i say take it
