For all the posters that are complaining about the draft, what would you have done differently now that we know where all the players went?

I will say, I wish we had moved up in the first to get Newsome. I wonder if we thought he'd fall to us. I like our other picks except for Book. I would have grabbed Marco Wilson or a receiver instead.

I don’t think the CB’s past Surtain and Horn were worth a haul at all

• The Saints sniffed around on trading up for one of the draft’s top corners. My sense is they were bargain-shopping a little (I heard from a couple of teams that they weren’t going to put a third first-rounder on the table to jump from No. 28), which is why they were never particularly close on a deal.

well thank God we didn't

Everything I have read about Newsome is that he is best in zone defense. We play way more man, so I don't think the fit was there.

Yes. I would have been pissed had we ended up with a top 10 pick this coming season. frick, we have no idea... Could be top 5. Would have been worst move ever.

Agreed. I wouldn't have wanted to give up another 1st to move up in the 1st. Only if a 3rd or future 2nd could have gotten us up a few spots.

We did because that is the type of personnel that we had in the past. Part of the reason the defense started so slow the last few years is because DA would try to force a zone defense with our secondary. Then they went out and hired Richard to coach DBs, and the belief is Sherman ends up in NOLA. With those 2 involved and DA's insistence on trying to force the zone def tells me they may have been looking for CBs better suited for zone.

I thought that Book was the only reach. I'm happy with this draft.

I'm not a fan of the Payton Turner pick. I hope I'm wrong and the Saints are right.

I think that the #2 WR position is a major need on this team, and I'm concerned that it's not being addressed. The Saints need more explosive power there, and I would have selected one of the WR's available in the first round to help with offensive production. In the NFL today, you need more than one established receiver who makes other teams worry. Right now, the Saints only have one - Michael Thomas, who is a possession receiver. The best there is, but more is needed.

The rest of the draft could have stayed the same, and defense would still have been helped.

I woukd have tried to move down to the 2nd round and tried to get an extra 3rd. There were plenty of good values that round.

If trading down wasn’t an option, I’d take Moehring to be Jenkins replacement next year.
2nd round I woukd have went with Basham to be our third end and Cams eventual replacement.
3rd round, I would not have traded up and stayed to take meinertz and either Browning or Cox to fill the linebacker hole.
4th round, I liked Brevin Jordan, the te.
I think the Kentucky lineman was a solid choice but since I took Meinertz to be the top interior backup earlier, I’d go with shi smith at that spot.
7th I’d have taken Marvin Wilson.

If a 3rd rounder was gained in the trade down, I’d have no problem taking the Stanford corner. But if not we’d have to get a free agent corner to start. They still have a few on the market, Breeland or Nelson woukd be my first two choices.

8 quarterbacks were taken by Round 3 Pick 3.

We had 1 pick between round 4 and a late 6th.

The only other quarterback taken was Ehlinger in the 6th. This means most likely someone else would have taken Ian Book before our next pick and we don't have any official future starter at QB. I don't get the hate.

People keep saying this about Sean and Loomis. They get too cute" in the draft. They pick guys that they like and have a high grade on. Unfortunately I also think they are having to pick for need more than they would like.

Book is a "nothing to lose" pick. He has every opportunity to develop in one the best offensive systems in the league. Even if he isn't our eventual starter, we have a chance to develop and flip him like the Patriots have done with their QBs over the years. If he isn't a starter or good enough to flip, all we are out of is a 4th round pick...big whoopie-doo. Low risk, multiple levels of high reward.

I don't mind the Payton pick. Didn't know much about him prior to the draft but he has some elite measurables. Don't like the injury issues and lack of elite production at a smaller school makes wary but ok pick. Don't like Werner. I'm not a scout but he didn't pop on any videos I watched of him. I love watching videos of Demario Davis because he just stands out. He makes plays that make you say wow. Even Baun last season stood out on video when rushing but even in coverage. Werner just seems to be there. High floor but low ceiling. Wish we were able to get Marshall. Really like the corner. Was once highly regarded. Has to be coached out of biting on double moves but good hands and attacks the ball when its in the air. Don't like the Book pick. If you see your QB of the future then go get them but these developmental qb picks end up being wasted. Like the tackle. Like the WR. Good size and speed.

Just my opinions. Like all things, time will reveal all.

Newsome played a ton of man. He is really sticky in man coverage.

You guys don’t know anything, never went to a pro day, never talked with these guys coaches. Nothing, zero, just blabbing what Kiper or the other talking heads say. We will see what we got soon enough.
Looking at Kiper rating is a complete joke. Has teams like the Jags and Bengals at a B and they pick near the top in every round. Look at where these guys are picked and you tell me if this guy isn’t a nut job.

I liked the Book pick. Watched him come for the bench in his first appearance and beat my Tigers. Watched him last year beat Clemson in the playoffs with little time in the fourth quarter. They were blitzing the dude on every play and he was calm and cool.
Dudes a winner and will work his arse off to be the starter. To bad Winston will hold that down for the next 10 or 12 years.
