Welcome to NOLA Spags.

The Last DC brought us a Superbowl. Hopefully you can do the same and more. You've got the talent on offense to take some risks and the talent on defense to make things happen. Every Saints fan is anticipating the next season and aching at the chance to forget that 49ers game with a Superbowl in the Dome.

Welcome to the Saints, the greatest franchise in the NFL with the best Fanbase in sports. Find us a few new coaches and get started on the offseason (a luxury we didn't have last season)

Who was getting pressure on the QB from our front 4? he had to blitz. had to.

There's nothing wrong with blitzing. It is very effective when it catches an offense off guard. It's not consistent way to live on defense which showed by Williams by blitzing more then 50% of the defensive snaps.

The issue isn't blitzing with Williams but the situations where he chose to blitz were becoming questionable. His gameplan against the 49ers was actually solid. Gregg did a good job of playing coverage schemes & mixing his blitz packages in accordingly. Then he decided to let his ego get in the way late in the game & blitzed instead of playing situational football.

Had he not done this in crucial moments of games before then it wouldn't even be an issue. You don't ask your players to play to their weaknesses or put them in positions to fail. Jenkins never was going to be able to jam Vernon Davis at the line of scrimmage on that slant route or be able to stay step for step with Davis either. That's flat out poor coaching on Williams part.

Welcome, Coach SpagNola! Here's to you making everyone forget that joke of a DC that was Gregg Williams.

Steve Spagnuolo is expected to bring his Rams DC, Ken Flajole, to Saints - probably as secondary coach

For #Eagles fans, Spagnuolo really wanted something fresh, something new, or don't think he would've coached this year.

I've got a ton of respect for what Gregg Williams did in New Orleans, and I still think Spagnuolo is an upgrade. Awesome move for Saints.

When a coach consistently coaches makes play calls because of his ego instead of the situation then yes, he deserves to be called a joke.

In the football world, the Saints had began to become a laughing stock defensively because other teams knew they would have numerous big play opportunities going into their matchups against the Saints defense. This is why Williams made it point to have players like Harper & Jenkins try to be intimidators on the field. Williams knew his schemes were viewed as soft & he made it a point for his players to try to curve that talk by having them take borderline cheapshots against opponents.

If you would get Williams dick out of your mouth for just a second, you might realize Gregg was overrated & talked more then he showed results.

you got the bandwagon stinch about you. GW record as a dc is enough to where he might have had bad year, but he wasn't a joke. He had top defenses wherever he went. GTFO with that craziness. The dude came in and we won a superbowl with him coaching a D that was tearing it up.

How quickly the bandwagoners forget.

Yes he had a bad year, but you are as josh says, being retarded.

Everything happens for a reason. If we would have won in San Franchitsco, we wouldn't have landed the Spag-NOLA. This is about homefield advantage in the Superbowl now. WHO DAT?!!!

Bandwagon my arse! I've been following the Saints since I was six years old & I found out what football was which just so happened to be the '87 season.

That fricking ring was a gift & curse because so many of our fans overlooked obvious flaws the Gregg Williams had. With a different DC that's multiple rings & not just that lone ring.

The truth is Williams style of heavy blitzing is prehistoric & outdated especially in the new passing age of the NFL. Young quarterbacks are coming into the league more prepared then ever before.

These younger quarterbacks have more of a grasp of getting the ball out of their hands & understand the importance of ball placement with their throws. When you blitz a young quarterback now & the defenders get picked up, the quarterback is basically doing a live 7 on 7 drill. The days of just blitzing a young or average quarterbacks to death just to rattle them are over.

The defenses who are successful now not only have solid, sound tacklers but their DC's do a good job of playing cat & mouse games presnap. They don't do it by consistently blitzing. With so many teams having so many really good athletes on offense now, its not wise to continuously leave the backside of your defense exposed in man to man coverage. You have to pick your spots when you damn sure better do a good job disguising your blitz presnap or your defenders will get burned.

This was/is Williams downfall. He failed to adjust to the times. He tried to force feed his philosophy even though it became apparent his style wasn't working. The great one's adjust. Williams never did. The great one's don't ask their players to play to their weaknesses either.

Too many fans credited Williams for being the difference in '09 when the success of the defense getting turnovers was more on Vilma & Sharper. I find it strange that after Seattle last season & San Francisco last week that fans still come in droves to defend a man & a scheme that showed it didn't work.

I don't give a frick about what you or anyone else says. I'll continue to cheer & support my team no matter what some dickhead says on a frickin message board. That won't stop me from being the biggest critic either whenever I see something wrong with them as well. So excuse me for telling it like is about a DC whose scheme was old & outdated.
