The question is what constitutes a "special season"?

If that is something like Washington did two years ago, or New England did this past season when they went from second worst team in the league to the conf. championship game/Super Bowl, then no, I don't see that happening for this Saints team.

If "special season" means going from 6-11 last year to 9-8 or 10-6, NFC South champs, and a playoff game or two, then yes, I could see that happening. But would that constitute a "special season"?

Don't think that is what OP means by "special season", but I'm sure he'll be around sometime today to answer. I suspect he's thinking something along the line of 2006.

IMO, what you posted should be the minimum expectation for all fan bases. Every team will have their rough times, but fans should expect a winning record, competing for division titles w/ some wins, and playoff appearances with occasional wins. Therefore, hitting those benchmarks should not constitute a "special season". If teams struggle to hit those benchmarks over a 3 year period, then outside of certain circumstances changes need to happen. Moore is entering year 2 of that window.

sure...but 7-10 should get you excited because it would further indicate a healing franchise as it continues down this path.

It's highly unlikely that this will be a special season. I'll be ecstatic if we continue down the same path we seemed to be on last year...and have another draft/offseason that results in an influx of young talent.

This is where delusion sets in. They need another offseason, especially one where they can go after top dollar free agents. Next offseason, their cap should allow for that.

Pat Kirwin said they look like a 9-win team yesterday on his Sirius XM show. I think that is a reasonable expectation for them, certainly is not special.

LFG!!!

Need to keep the votes to 8 and 8 because the Saints fans will be lucky to end the season with this record. And yall will be HAPPY about it.

To be taken seriously, a poster should at least be aware of how many games are played in an NFL season.

Well, when I stopped watching it was 16 games. Ya know when the kneeling started. And back in the 70-80's 8 and 8 was a GREAT year for the Saints.
