Just wanted to point out -- the Chargers are using Penning exclusively as a 6th lineman in run packages and he is absolutely road grading people.....

If the price for that is a late round pick in 2027, thats a great get for the Chargers

If you take him in the 1st round thats pathetic

Sure, as an extra T, his natural position. They aren’t moving him to G like we tried to do with Peat, Ruiz (from C) and Penning himself. .

Ehh, Saints did the right thing by getting something for him. You can find a “6th lineman” all over the league, it’s just simply a backup T.

So Loomis is going to trade down.

I love the Saints but we aren’t going far with Loomis at the helm

That was a nice deal. I am surprised they more than a bucket of fried chicken for him.

What big money free agent we signing this year smart arse? I’m sure Pickens will get 30+ million. We already pretty close to against the cap…

Ok, if you say so. This is what I said back in August.

quote:

We didn’t give up much more and could have had Pickens. He’s a head case but has #1 receiver talent. And he’s only 24. Olave, Pickens, and Shaheed would be a nice young well rounded receiver corps. Cowboys should be better so their pick won’t be much higher than our 4th.

Saw this earlier, pff has us ranked 30th in supporting cast ranking. That’s blocking, running, receiving.

CKM will have a major say in the draft and in FAs. Even the Loomis needs Moore to succeed.

Same as with SP - saints model is structured that way which is why some of the Loomis hate gets too extreme.

Titans being 26 is laughable.

1k rusher, but maybe 1 receiver who hits 600 yards (tight end)

Giving up 50 sacks.

Lest we forget we burned a 1st on Penning and got a 7th a few years later.

Thats like celebrating a D- because it’s not an F.

Otherwise I like the late round pick swapping for depth pieces. Much better than using them to move up to draft yet another early round bust.

I see you finally stopped calling it a top 100 pick.

Regarding some of your other posts about getting a comp pick for Pickens, and we don't have the money to sign big free agents... Do you not recall this board shitting on Loomis for rushing to sign Andy freaking Dalton before the comp pick deadline? That 1 year $3M deal offset Armstead's 5 year $75M contract when determining if the Saints would get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick after he walked in free agency.

Maybe the run blocking grades high. Thinking our run and pass blocking rates pretty low.

I remember. I’m the one that posted it pointing it out. That’s how stupid Loomis is. If he waited till after the deadline, we would have got a 3rd.

Same thing might happen with the Yiadom signing this year. It’s why he was inactivated a good part of the year. So we don’t lose the Adebo comp pick.

These trades remind me a lot of the type of moves the Saints made in the 2006 offseason, where a culture reset was badly needed.

Small trade downs for starter upgrades (Hollis Thomas, Jeff Faine), low value pick trades or for starters/solid contributors (Shanle), trading Stallworth on a contract year (4th rounder+ starting MLB in Simoneau).

The Draft gets most of the attention, but these are the types of moves (along with finding a franchise QB) that make it possible for a team to go from 4th to 1st in a division in one season.

So, you were the "one that pointed it out", because I am sure no other poster noticed it or referenced it until you "pointed it out"; and you are still confident in this earlier post about Pickens leaving from you?

If he signs elsewhere for big money, we get a 3rd round comp pick back. So it’s a net neutral loss.

Only smart compared to you. The Saints will have no trouble paying FA this offseason - most of the cash in any deal will hit in later years when our cap is clean. That's not just a Saints thing, that's how most new signings are structured across the NFL. The cap space we need to sign FA is in 2027 and 2028.

As far as who... How about FA WR Raheed Shaheed? Or better yet, the best friggin OG on the market. The new contract doesn't have to be the same to cancel out the comp pick from someone like Pickens, just somewhere in the ballpark.

We’d have to sign a free agent close to the same amount for what Pickens signs for to lose the comp pick. Unless we sign more than we lost like what happened with Dalton. I’m guessing Loomis learned the hard way when he found out we weren’t getting that 3rd with his blunder.

That’s why maybe Yiadom didn’t see much playing time this year. If he started so many games it goes against the formula.

It’s a stretch, but I’m hoping Loomis learned his lesson but I could be wrong.

Here ya go…
Go read what I copied off another site.

Anything else?

Yup. Andy Dalton cost us a third round pick. Front office is fricking retarded. No reason to sign him until after the deadline passed like Honey Badger.
