If the question even has to be asked, the answer is yes
If Lutz still instilled confidence like in his early years, we wouldn’t be asking. And if you don’t have confidence in the guy, it’s time to move on

Would really like to see Haener with the starters

Lutz deserves a pass on last year. Coming off a big injury for a kicker he didn’t trust himself totally last year he admitted. He’s going to be the Lutz we have always known again this year wether it’s here or somewhere else.

Lutz is a highly paid kicker ... if it is close, you go with the cheaper guy IMO

It’s not really a position you can afford to sit around and see if the guy has figured it out when you have a young buck kicking like Grupe. Lutz was great when on but we are a long way from 2019. His deal is up after this year, there’s really no reason not to send him out if a team will give you something for him. Denver and Dallas would both need guys

Grupe needs to mature

For what it's worth, Underhill said on his podcast that it's probably gonna be Lutz. Nick suggested that Groupe needed to make that kick from 60 to make the team.

No NFL kickers have a weak leg. Sophomores in high school make 60+ yard kicks.

Does Grupe's mother know where her son is??? He looks 12 at the most. Lol

To me this is the biggest issue for Lutz trying to stay with the team. It would appear it's close, and only slightly leaning towards Lutz. But Grupe is under contract through 2025, and is very cheap. If you want to keep Lutz, you are probably looking at around a $4M a year cap hit.

If you keep the Grupes you need to find a kicker Tuesday for the practice squad you really like.

This isn’t how our FO operates. We’ll go with the sure thing especially if the only concern is a few million

Lutz converted 68% of his 19 FGA between 30-49 yards last season. Worst in the league. It’s why we are having this discussion

Keywords being “last season”, coming off abdominal injury / surgery

Grupe will be your kicker.

What an awesome position for the team to be in, to get to make this choice.
I'm not mad either way.
If I'm the decider, I think I am going with Grupe especially if I can trade Lutz today. The cap space is too meaningful to me.
Both these guys will be kicking this year.

Well he was 39/39 from inside 30 on FG/XP and 4/6 from 50+ coming off the injury. I guess the question is, what was the deal on being so bad from 30-49?
We don’t get to the inter workings of the kicker battle. If Lutz came out and shite the bed again it would be tough to swallow knowing you let the other guy walk. Especially given that Lutz isn’t under contract after this season. You’re going to need to resign him or a new kicker- the decision can be made now
