Serious Question - Is Carr an intelligent QB?

The Payton / Carmichael offense is fairly complex and depends on the QB really knowing their stuff and knowing the reads, etc.

Brees and Hill have a high football IQ. To an extent, so does Dalton. Jameis does not.

Is this offense too complicated for Carr to run? Is he thinking too much?

I think what we are finding out is that the Payton offense wasn't super revolutionary and depended a lot on Brees being a HoFer. Yes Payton was a better play caller than Pete but Brees is the engine that made the offense run.

By that metric, no Carr isn't Brees and therefore can't run the offense. But neither can Russell Wilson (so far at least).

It's a legitimate question. I notice Carr doesn't study the previous plays when he is on the sideline when the Defense is playing. Brees never stopped working on the sideline.

He's average but it shows you how okay calling hasn't helped.

When you have 2 wrs essentially running the same route multiple times, that's an offense issue. Not a Qb issue.

You really can’t see everything Carr is doing when out of the game.

I personally think the problem lies within the offensive play calling. Although it's worth noting Carr scored 20 on Wonderlic test.

In an article after the game the Saints eluded to the fact that they were calling a lot of deep routes to run off the coverage to open up the short stuff and flats for Kamara...

Or so they thought?

On the surface it sounds like a smart play. But at what point in the game does DA, PC & Carr say "our game plan isn't working, lets try something different"?

Also, how effective is that if you are running 2 WRs to the same spot multiple times during the game. Hell, there are plays where they had 2 WRs deep left, 2 WRs deep right, and AK within 2 yards of the LoS. WTF is that suppose to accomplish.

You don’t think Hill has a high football IQ? Dude plays how many positions? He probably has the highest weekly mental load in the entire league.

The raiders basically let him go because he was too stupid to run their offense. That’s their claim. Maybe their OC / HC sucks too though, I don’t know.

He has no anticipation and cannot throw a receiver open. The deep ball to Olave is an example of his lack of anticipation. Brees knew where the receiver would be and threw to that spot. Carr waits for them to be open before throwing.

The question was about Football Iq

It’s very hard to debate Taysom Hill’s football IQ

He is one of the most complete players in NFL history and he’s a guy that really doesn’t make many mistakes despite having dozens of responsibilities on gameday.

Here is your New Orleanas Saints in a nutshell

Head Coach is just bad. 17 - 39 record. Fire him already

Offensive Coordinator is bad. Time for some new innovative mind.

QB - Carr is average at best ..wont get you to a Championship
QB - Winston is average...again will never win a championship

Defense is decent not great, but would probably be better if the damn offense would contribute.

Offense - has skill players, but when you combine a poor OC with an average QB you get what you have.

Prove me wrong. Long long season.
