Buffalo was a perpetual laughingstock prior to McDermott

If the Saints from the past needed a HC, I'd have loved to hire that version of McDermott

8 straight playoff appearances and 5 division titles and if not for the appearance of a once-in-a-lifetime Patrick Mahomes, who knows

We don't have Josh Allen to do that

guess it’s nice we have a poor man’s version

The rant is frying me for suggesting we pounce on tFolder before someone scoops him up

You have to get him here first. Kellen was about the 10 choice to coach the Saints.

McDermott won 25 games his last two years. You’re acting like he fizzled out. That front office failed him, and Brady likely faces the same fate come playoff time. They had two or three good drafts pre 2020 and have had Loomisesque drafts recently

I like the idea of him bc he ushered in the Allen era as a first year HC and navigated those waters very well. Allen was arse as a passer, he put the right people around him. Always seemed like McDermott was getting more out of lesser players. Allen or not, he sustained a contender for nearly a decade

Payton, McVay, Shanahan, Harbaugh, etc. have struggled keeping the machine going for more than 2-3 years in a row. McDermott had Buffalo as a sure thing from 2018-25. And for all of the drafting talk on here, you are correct. Look at who Allen has thrown to in his time at Buffalo. It’s a joke.

But we don't have anything close to Allen and we're tied to Shough for the foreseeable future. That's not a knock on Shough but he's no Josh Allen

So what's he going to do here with Loomis drafts every year?

Why would the Saints get a new head coach?

Did you not listen to Loomis on Monday?

To defend my boy Shanahan, once they got rolling under him the only thing that's derailed him having amazing teams every year is injuries, basically, and he's dragged plenty of injured teams deep in the playoffs, regardless.

That's why I think he's the best and above McVay

2019: Lost SB
2020: Injuries
2021: Lost in NFCCG
2022: Lost in NCCCG
2023: Lost in SB
2024: Injuries
2025: Lost in NFC Wild Card (Kittle, CMac injured)

We can't afford to gamble years of Shough on an unproven coach

McDermott would be exceptional given where this franchise is

We're in year 2 of Shough. Not year 10

I'd be fine with an experienced coach who knows how to develop talent and build culture. If he's too stale to get us over the playoff hump, we can deal with that down the road. We just need to get to the point where we have a realistic shot of making the playoffs first. I think that a coach like McDermott may be able to do that.

He would be near the top of my list and I have mentioned him here.

He would have us back to actual competence, I think he would be good for us to get back to being a good franchise

He put good coaches around Allen throughout his tenure at Buffalo. Comes across as an intelligent guy. He is not a meathead defensive guy like a Flores or Saleh.
