This looks like Dennis Allen wanting him gone and changing the culture. It's not like Allen didn't know CGJ. Stuff like this happens when a new coach comes in. We'll see if this was a good or bad move long term.
I'm not sure what "not taking coaching" means but I don't mind if the team wants to get rid of a head case, even a talented one.

Even a 4th would have been nice, but I guess it doesn't work that way.
Still hoping we maximize value for Payton.

Probably one of the best nickel backs in the league, but he wanted $12M. Carried a really bad attitude throughout camp that finally got to Allen & Lumas. The guys picked up showed enough that they were comfortable with doing a deal. Don’t need any cancer in the locker room … adios!

Colts acquired LB Grant Stuard and a 2023 seventh-round pick from the Bucs in exchange for a 2023 sixth-round pick.
Stuard was Mr. Irrelevant in the 2021 NFL Draft. As a rookie, Stuard saw most of his action on special teams where he earned a whopping 311 snaps. He forced one fumble while earning 15 combined tackles. Stuard will take on a larger role as a defender in Indianapolis, though he still projects as a backup.
Thought this was funny. Saints basically got the same compensation for cgj as the bucs got for mr irrelevant. That was a bad trade.
Should've been at least a 4th and 5th. Or just a 3rd.

You’re talking to a guy who just compareed Marcus Williams to Earl Thomas. Because, you know, the saints and their man scheme to totally the same as the complicated zone scheme the Seahawks ran.
a. Their scheme wasn't complicated. That was a big reason why, when it was figured out ET kept it going and when he left their D fell off.
b. MW and ET had similar roles
You know guys can have similar roles in different schemes, right?

A 5th and 6th? I know he's going into free agency but that hurts! He was one of the young players on defense that brought an attitude. I would have rathered the Saints sign him over Honey Badger to be honest.

Right. All those other guys who left had nothing to do with it.

Similar because Thomas played deep center occasionally?

Yeah “similar” in the same way that Kamara and Henry have “similar” roles.
You’re just trying to push the narrative that Williams is some irreplaceable piece of the defense, which is not even remotely true. It’s honestly such a bad take that it’s difficult to take anything you post on the topic seriously at this point.

He was most likely causing a scene in the locker room or running his mouth during this contract debacle and management had enough of his shtick and got rid of him quick. Probably should wait and see what he gets paid in Philly and how he preforms before criticizing this move. He was a top nickle but at safety I don't know.

How did the Saints get so bad at trading? I get it if you had to move on, but a shitty 5th and 6th? How the frick does that make sense to anyone? The dude is a player, he's worth a 3rd at bare minimum.

It's not the same thing.
There are no void years or complicated structures. He got a huge bonus and has big salaries starting year 3.
Our strategy is to waste cap with dead cap hits. Our standard contracts now literally create dead cap b/c we use void years in EVERY contract it seems. TM and MM both have void years and automatic dead cap. There is no dead cap in MW's deal right now. There may be if they cut him, but they have full cap usage until that point from this deal.
The saints back load contracts too. Every contract starts out very small and it back loaded.
Now they do add those hits to future years. You just said yourself the cap would go up and that is a good thing for williams' contract.
Same reason the saints do it. I think they do it too much but the point still stands. You just praised the ravens but shite on the saints.
In the maye contract they added like 1.2 mil in 2 consecutive years. Oh the horror.

What the actual frick. This is a shite trade, no positive way to spin it.
Loved CGJ. Hate he's going to Philly of all places.

Good question. We clearly don’t value draft picks at all. And by we, I mean Loomis. We trade them away like they’re nothing and toss them into trades where we really shouldn’t have to. It’s a GM thing.
Saints are competitive so it’s whatever but the day comes where they aren’t, then Loomis will get the promotion to a new position and a new GM, with a different philosophy will come aboard.

We got raped
Can’t rape the willing. Saints were content to give him away to get him off the team. There had to be way more behind the scenes that we aren’t privy to.

Saints will just use those draft picks to trade up next year

Well, the only good thing out of this is that Mark Ingram can have No. 22 back. Lol

You couldn’t have gotten anything for Mw. You either sign him or don’t.
I melted at the time, but I like what they’ve done. We won’t miss a beat.
CJGJ to me is easily worth a late 2nd, but not in todays nfl where draft picks are overvalued so much.
