We have now addressed every position we lost this year and then some (backup center by proxy of Ruiz being able to move to center and having drafted a backup guard).
Theoretically we should be much better than last year (barring injuries at key places), but we'll see how effective certain replacements are.
I know people have their doubts about Ellis, but I think he'll play really well for us. Star is still a question, but we have pieces now to try to answer it. Depth is straight up better across the board, even if currently 3rd edge is more questionable.

They didn’t get rid of Ruiz?

Why would they? Costs them cap and he is still starter quality, even if people debate how good of a starter that is.

One down, two to go…
Now sign Quentin Lake and Joshua Palmer

He'll of course be way up to speed on the division opponents and may even have some tips to share that he learned in Atlanta? That is something we'll never be privy to but you gotta feel like those kinds of things happen.
coming into his 8th year and has been durable. To me, that checks a crucial box.

Great move.
Love the way the saints are buying lottery tickets on these player.
Wilson is a 5th round price tag with 1st round potential .
Emerson is a 3rd round pick who had seemingly outplayed his draft position until the injury in 2025.
I would personally look at these signings, especially Emerson as long term potential. Not necessarily blow up in 2026 or cut bait.
Wilson is a little different as this is his 5th year and the Saints declined to pick up his $14m 5th year option and will see how 2026 goes.
A lot of people thought Chase Young was taking the lowball saints deal to prove it and then get a big contract in FA for a contender. Wasn’t the case. Young had a very good first season and committed to the saints long term for believing in him. His words, “I want to finish my career in New Orleans “
I like the angle Mickey is going with these buy low players. Chances are it doesn’t return a big splash and that’s ok you’re not out much but if it does, these are quality young players that can be major pieces.

Nvm it is actually May 1st and not right before the draft.
We'll see what happens with it.
Mickey was unsure of when the exact deadline was when asked about it. Sounded like he thought it had passed.

This signing may be low key top 3 acquisition of offseason

An Achilles injury is tough. Still need another CB, treat Emerson as lagniappe

They continue to improve the roster…

They wouldn't have signed him after working him out today if they thought he didn't look right.
But we added now 5 corners, one of whom has starting experience. I don't see us doing more than that unless an opportunity presents itself.
They aren't going to go out and pay someone $10 mil plus a year. This is bargain shopping, and we got one of the best bargains here.
Between McKinstry, Riley, Emerson, and Hall you have 4 players that can play outside (3 proven), and then you have those guys, Blackmon, Sanker, Howden, and Styles that can compete for the nickel spot. Worst case you also have Yiadom that can fill in at outside corner as well.
If you thought they were adding a high end outside corner, you are mistaken. They would have done so before the draft if that was their plan.

I’ll err on the side is caution and just ask, can you explain and little more what you’re trying to say?
I don’t want to assume I know what you’re meaning.

The 5th year option deadline is May 1st. I thought it was right before the draft.
Loomis, when asked, also seemed unsure of when the deadline was in the moment, and had also thought it might have passed.
So I think that lead to people definitely stating something he never really said. He never outright said they were declining the option (the ESPN report stating he did referred to the post draft presser as where they got the info). Iirc he said they didn't pick up the option, but wasn't sure of the deadline. I'll try to get the exact quote.
And while they may not pick it up, he didn't outright state they were declining it. It seemed more like just in the moment when asked they hadn't picked it up rather than a definitive they will not pick it up.
Edit:
Yeah he definitely said that he was unsure of the deadline, and at first he said that he is probably going to be a free agent, but then at the end he said a little more sure that it's a 1 year trial and that he's going to be a free agent.
I didn't remember him sounding so sure about it at the end (because of the unsureness right before), so I guess they will very likely decline it.
I also overlooked that you said it would be $14 mil in your post, and he definitely hasn't proven he could even potentially be worth that much, so it makes sense to decline it. It's a gamble, but being that he is projected to be a rotational piece and not a starter, and has never had great sack production, it's likely a gamble we win.

Emerson was great at Miss State. Source. I went to Miss State. This really could be a sneaky signing for us if he recovers well from his injury.

I like that he is young. If he still has juice, you can sign him up long term. If he beats out Riley, you now have good depth and Riley was mentioned as someone who could slide inside. If he lost a step, you are not invested in him and you just let him go.

Do we know how long the deal is? Curious on him and Jennings if these were 1 year deals, or 2-3 year cheap-ish deals.
Edit:
Just checked the official Saints announcement and both are 1 year deals. Curious if both are vet minimum. That would leave enough room for Cam if so.

Maybe a small step backwards on pass D (maybe not ) and two steps forward on run D (c miller is gonna make a huge impact I anticipate.

This is perfect. I can't lie, I just love everything about how Kellen Moore and Loomis are putting the team together. The right situation didn't happen to take a CB or end/Edge guy in the draft so we trade for a young talented Tyree Wilson and sign this CB. I love it, zero risk
