Sproles got paid $3.5 mil for 90 touches. Ingram had about 250 touches last year. Makes $4 mil seem like a steal.

wish all the complainers would tell me who they would get for 4mil per year? And drafting a guy in the 3rd or 4th round, doesn't always work. They will still draft one, though. They need a 3rd and 4th RB, unless they bring back Cadet.

I have one for you who is clearly a better back than Ingram and it's not even close and who played at the same college. TJ Yeldon. We could get him in the 3rd and pay him 1/2 what we are paying for Ingram. Yeldon is going to be a very solid NFL back compared to Ingram.

Trent Richardson was "better than Ingram in college". Which would you rather for 4mil?

Now, I do believe Yeldon will be a good back in the NFL, you just really never know. They a paying for a known commodity. One that they groomed and taught their game to.

Exactly. This isn't a crazy deal at all when you consider his recent production and the idea that they now completely trust him to be the guy carrying the ball, in the receiving game, and blocking in their system... All in the prime years of his career with relatively little nfl wear and tear. It's not a video game where you just plug in another college running back for less money... There are a lot of factors at play.

I think initially besides some injuries, Ingram suffered from not having the truck width size holes to run through that he had in college(see Trent Richardson). He seemed to stick with it and now attacks what is given to him way more often than not(which isn't always much with our recent o line play). The guy runs hard and runs with aggression... You may even argue that there were times last year where he looked like one of the few players NOT going through the motions.

Furthermore what exactly has Ingram shown in the past that would cause people to doubt his work ethic going forward after receiving a decent 2nd contract? Cheering on the sidelines for his college during his time off? What a lazy a-hole...

Someone also mentioned his pass blocking was legit last year.

4 mil is not much for a workhorse who can also pass block.

R ewe blind? He went to fricking Bama and he was hurt half of a season 4 years ago and he had that one fumble that one time in 4 years.

To me those are pretty clear reasons why we don't want to pay a young, full of potential, 5 yrd averaging, sure handed, solid blocking, full service running back a cheap contract during the prime of his talent.

The deal is even worse when you consider we just lost our franchise back Pierce Thomas and this Bama fricktard knows all the plays and has chemistry with the team and shows a tremendous amount of passion on the sidelines.

Loomis is an idiot. Saints are done. Trade Brees, sell the team.

college is college, pros is pros. Talking about who the better pro will be, that is Yeldon. Saints ship is sinking fast these days and they need to make smarter moves with cap space. Resigning Ingram at 4 mill is not the smart move. Maybe at 2.5 mil. If he could make more than that some where else then let him go and draft another back.

His pass blocking and receiving has come on. He can be a true 3 down back.

Now keep in mind I'm not saying he is Sproles in the passing game, but he can run the flats, delays, and out and ins(there's another name here but I'm blanking). He even showed he was capable(though no PT) at running screens, unlike Cadet who would get tackled before 5 yards.

Full Retard is right Meat

I think it's a very fair number and nothing Ingram has done has shown him to be a lazy RB noe that he has a contract.

So Yeldon is going to be a better pro than Ingram, why is he slated to go in the 3rd/4th round?

I mean you must have known Tom Brady was going to win 4 rings too right? And that Aaron Rodgers was going to be the best QB for the next decade when he was drafted by GB instead of SF?

Not a crazy deal numbers wise. MI played just fine the last 1 1/2 years to earn that. He was the youngest of the FA out there. And if CSP would show some imagination with MI maybe teams will not know when its a run or a screen

Now no longer a must get in draft. Which means some RB the Saints had very high on their board drops to us...we draft in 1st 3 rounds and board melts.

In those same games of <3.6ypc, the next RB with the highest carry went pretty bad as well. Some games, we didn't even have PT/Robinson so he played almost every snap.

Detroit: 1st in run defense (3.17ypc) - came back from injury
Carolina: 16th in run defense (4.51ypc) - short week post-GB game where he carried it 24 times 172yards
Cincy: 20th in run defense (4.24ypc)
Baltimore: 4th in run defense (3.62ypc)
Chicago: 17th in run defense (4.27ypc)
Atlanta: 21st in run defense (4.21ypc)

notice those 6 games? All of them have solid run stopping DTs. Notice what we lack? Solid interior OL

Detroit: Suh
Carolina: Star/Short
Cincy: Atkins
Baltimore: Ngata
Chicago: Ratliff
Atlanta: Soliai/Jackson (both were solid run stoppers pre-ATL; both were decent in ATL).

I appreciate you're attention to detail (and I'm being serious), but to me, that's a pretty long list of excuses. Elite RBs make it happen regardless of other circumstances. He was a 1st rounder for us. I'm just saying he hasn't lived up to expectations. I think he has played quite a bit better since the back end of the 2013 season, but he has had durability issues and hasn't been a consistent game changer. Almost half of his games last year were very mediocre. I hope it works out for the Saints.

Agreed, full retard.

And I love the guy who made the Sproles comparison.... Basically proved our point that the Ingram deal is a steal and that the Eagles paid way too much for a decoy.

With PT gone and Ingram paid I have to imagine Ingram will be our full time back. Meaning if he is on the field every down teams will have to finally respect the run when Brees does a play action or iform drop back. That hugely benefits both the run and pass game I'm very fricking excited about that prospect. I'm praying we get back to pre-2011 Payton. The last 3 season I could call every play from my couch or 602 before the ball was snapped. That's never a good thing.
