Dude has completely turned the corner and killed it behind a shitty line. He's a top 5-10 back back easily.
He hasn't been. He has only had over 500 yards twice in four years, he hasn't been durable and his longest run has been 35 yards. He had a pretty good year, but in six of the 13 games he played in he averaged less than 3.6 ypc. So he was kind of feast or famine.

I forgot today was the day that legal tampering (aka the three day period where other teams can talk to your free agents before free agency) started. Makes sense now why these deals are getting done.
Ingram probably wanted to see how much more other teams were offering before taking the possible discount.

In those same games of <3.6ypc, the next RB with the highest carry went pretty bad as well. Some games, we didn't even have PT/Robinson so he played almost every snap.
Detroit: 1st in run defense (3.17ypc) - came back from injury
Carolina: 16th in run defense (4.51ypc) - short week post-GB game where he carried it 24 times 172yards
Cincy: 20th in run defense (4.24ypc)
Baltimore: 4th in run defense (3.62ypc)
Chicago: 17th in run defense (4.27ypc)
Atlanta: 21st in run defense (4.21ypc)
notice those 6 games? All of them have solid run stopping DTs. Notice what we lack? Solid interior OL
Detroit: Suh
Carolina: Star/Short
Cincy: Atkins
Baltimore: Ngata
Chicago: Ratliff
Atlanta: Soliai/Jackson (both were solid run stoppers pre-ATL; both were decent in ATL).

To those who hate us signing Ingram, how much money does he deserve?
And who do you want as our workhorse next year? If anyone says Khiry I assume you want Charles Grant as our pass rusher

I don't think they're mad at the 4yr/16mil.
I think its the fact they just don't want him on this team.

I read this whole thread.
Not sure why.
Sounds like we re-signed Ingram.

Wow. I must have missed his greatness...

Holy crap the melt over a reasonably priced back who had a good season is impressive.
Haters definitely going to hate it seems

Not only is it a good deal for a solid back, but it totally vindicates the FO decision to not give him the 5 million dollar extension and play the free agency percentages. Nice move again, Loomis.

Melt?
You badasses need to recognize what that even means.
Never liked him.
I think the Saints could have done better.
I'll take Pierre Thomas any day.

uh huh, doesn't sound unreasonable

probably so, but hindsight is 20/20 in the draft.
2011: 2nd round: Ryan Williams, Shane Vereen, Mikel LeShoure, Daniel Thomas; 3rd round: Murray, Ridley, Alex Green
2012: 1st round: Doug Martin, David Wilson; 2nd round: Isaiah Pead, LaMichael James; 3rd round: Ronnie Hillman, Bernard Pierce
Only Vereen, Murray, Ridley, and Martin have had better careers/single year production. Vereen is kind of pushing it since he's a PT clone more than Ingram.

so would every one of us if he was 26. Too bad he's 30 and beginning to break down.

Middle of the road back. Middle of the road money. Saints aren't a running team anyway, good deal all around.

Im super pumped about this deal. This is a great deal for a great running back!
He has definately improved the last year and a half, and he keeps getting better. If we can fix our O Line he could potentially be a top 5 back in my opinion. He has all of the tools. He just needs the blocking. I think that if he were on the Cowboys he would have done nearly as good as D Murrey did this past year with that O line:

I couldn't see any other team in the league paying 4 mil a year for Ingram. If sproles only got 3.5 mil a year how in the hell would Ingram command 4? Ridiculous move on the Saints part once again. Could have easily gotton a better back in the draft with a mid or late round pick.

If we get a #2 CB, starting C, 2OG and maybe a fricking LB then I will like this deal. Oh well I guess I don't like it. I trust SP but I don't get paying a RB that I don't fully trust when we have such glaring holes. I hope this works out.

I want to know what's guaranteed. I'm guessing all of it isn't, so Ingram for less than $4M a year is exactly what I was hoping for.
For the Saints to sign a 25 year old sought after RB that knows their offense and who was going to get offers from their competitors in the NFC is a solid win.

I wish all the complainers would tell me who they would get for 4mil per year? And drafting a guy in the 3rd or 4th round, doesn't always work. They will still draft one, though. They need a 3rd and 4th RB, unless they bring back Cadet.
