Trotting their old asses out there is not only going to lead to a horrible defense it is delaying development of younger players.
Fwiw Cam has already stated he’s going to play a backup role. DD is basically done and I didn’t think played well last year. There’s competition for TM, I don’t mind my safety being older because experience plays a big part there. Saying that, I don’t disagree with anything you said
I’m hoping Godchaux makes a difference against the run for us.

It would be nice if the board as a group
would be realistic and not fill up the board with constant “…”. sucks or”” Moore
sucks”, “Shough sucks”, etc.

It’s as though people have no idea how complimentary a game football is.
Due mostly to horrid injury luck, the offense couldn’t sustain drives at all last year and this resulted in the defense always being on the field.
No, they’re not the 2000 Ravens, but they’re not the 2012 Saints either.
This defense opposite a typical 2008-2018 Brees-led offense would be more than “just fine”.
The abject, nonstop negativity about how bad this team will be is painfully funny. Some of y’all are still letting Dennis Allen frick you in the head!
Will this be a great team? Almost certainly not.
Will they be 4-13? Probably not.
Not unless you think Kellen Moore will be as bad as the worst head coach in the modern NFL era, AND 2024’s injury woes return, AND Roger’s Refs decide to go full-on anti-Payton again.
I don’t expect playoffs and certainly not legit contention, but I’m gonna have fun watching the team I love and hope to see promise and growth.
You eternal Nega-Saints can eat a bag of dicks.

Fun thing with NFL is so much parody. You really never know. QB is obviously a huge question mark. Not meaning to compare this team to 2009, but prior to that season, none of us predicted SB. 2 seasons without making playoffs, biggest FA pickups were an aging Sharper, Greer was a solid corner out of Buffalo but nothing spectacular at the time, and a fullback. Vilma was a solid pickup the prior year. I think we've had 2 good drafts in a row. I'm glad DA is gone; hopefully the Saints can rebound. I'm going to be excited like I am every year. If they play like shite, oh well.
And yes, I understand there's a big difference in having Brees compared to what we have now. People were still calling for SP's head prior to the 09 season.

I’m typically pretty optimistic when it comes to the saints every offseason. But I just do not see it with the roster on defense. Is there anyone on the defense that you consider an above average NFL starter ?

Godchaux and Reid, Bresee is an above average pass rushing DT. You said above average, not good

I'm a bit more optimistic about CKM since he was hired. Seems to know how to run things very well. I also think there will be much more player turnover to come the next 10 months as the coach puts his stamp on things.
And of course the nega posters will be out all year blasting anyone posting anything positive but new schemes on both sides of the ball will keep me watching with interest.

Ezeriku is going to end up balling out with the cowboys. Same as revel.

What the heck? we love Bresee dude has incredible motor

For a defensive guy, Allen’s personnel on that side of the roster is fricking terrible.
Cap and all that play a small role, but that’s one of the primary reasons he’s a loser of a head coach. He can’t even manage the half of the roster that’s his bread and butter.

If we took them two with our 2nd and 3rd rounders and kept the rest of our draft as is, I’d say it woukd have been our best draft since ‘17.

Bresee was very poorly rated by PFF. He was essentially the worst against the run for his position. It’s obviously not the end all be all but in the eyes of some he wasn’t very good in some aspects. He definitely made some splash plays though so with some growth and consistency you’d like to think he will become a very valuable piece in the near future. Still a very young guy.

I would always be curious how the coaches would grade the players from game to game.
I don't know how pro football focus grades players.
They never elaborate on their grading system. That's why I question it.
But of course we would never be privy to that information from pro football focus or the Saints staff on how they grade the players.
Edit: or I would just love to be a fly on the wall when they did evaluations on the players at the end of the season. Even though this coaching staff was new, that would have been very interesting to just listen in and hear their thoughts on what they saw on tape last year

This is the correct take, but because we’ve busted so many 1st round picks and Bresse is what we drafted with the pick from Denver for Payton we elevate his mediocre performance to feel better.
This is a critical season for him as I haven’t seen enough to warrant picking up the 5th year option.
Posted on 6/28/25 at 8:21 pm to Geauxldilocks
So 7.5 sacks from a DT isn’t enough to pickup his 5th year option? Are you totally retarded or just a little? Picking up his 5th year option is all but a formality at this point.

Bresee is our best defensive lineman
How would you quantify this? His 36 PFF score?

I think he may make a good DE in a 3-4.
It's going to be wild to see the different Dline groups and who fits and who doesn't. Times are a changing folks. Need a NT to step up as well.

He’s the only defensive lineman who gets any pressure on the QB and from the DT position that disrupts the pocket. He’s average at best against the run, but so are our other lineman. Granderson is a little better against the run, but doesn’t get as much pressure or impact the pass game.
Bresee has his shortcomings, but our other defensive lineman have more and aren’t as good. That’s how I qualify my statement.
