Anyone else surprised the Smith didn't get the nod over Summers?

Smith doesn't play special teams.
He seems to be there in the event Werner or Davis miss time.
It's hard to put someone on the roster if they're not starting or playing special teams.

My first thought was he must have been an older rookie. Then I realized 2019 was 4 years ago already. Damn

It's really not funny how fast time goes by.

He’ll be a starter and play a good bit if demario or Pete goes down. Still confused about it, but lets just hope we dont have to worry about this becoming a reality.

Questions about practice squad players.
1) If other teams sign players from a practice squad to the still have to carry them on the 53 man roster?
2) Can a player on a teams practice squad choose to leave and join another teams practice squad or does the original team "own" his rights?
Bonus question.
How many of you old farts like me remember the NFL rosters before the free agency? lol. Sucked for the player =s but great for teams. lol
Not many know our own Bobby Hebert was instrumental in changing that, and as he tells it, it negatively affected his career.

Yes you must sign them to your 53 for a minimum of three weeks. Whether you then cut them or not they are on your 53 for those three weeks.
A team can protect some of the PS guys. Don't know about just quiting but I'm sure there are rules

I mean, 23 year old rookies aren't that uncommon. Fifth year seniors, and older 4 year guys are 23 or 24 coming out of college.

Yeah ST move. Jaylon Smith comes if Werner or DD miss a game.

if we can hang on to these guys, that would be awesome, b/c i think all of them, at some point, will be on the gameday roster sooner or later

Players have to be signed to the 53 of the new team. Players can choose not sign with another team (a team can't poach a player that doesn't want to go).
Sometimes a team will give their PS player a raise to the vet minimum of an active roster spot to keep them on their PS if another team tries to sign them away. Again it's up to the player in that case to sign to the other team's 53, or stay on their current team's PS with a raise.
Players cannot just quit being on a PS. They are basically on a 1 year deal with their current team to remain on their PS.
