The New Orleans Saints have offered QB Jameis Winston a restructured deal to stay, per sources. Winston has until Wednesday to accept the offer because of the start of the league year or he will be released.

If the Saints keep Winston they can avoid the $11.2 million cap hit that comes with releasing him.

Seems hard to believe that he refused to play last year vs rams then if this is true

He should take it, but I'm guessing he'll pass in thinking that he can start somewhere else.

I also imagine this means they plan to cut Dalton loose.

Would be shocked if he accepts it.

I think there has to be some animosity there and he wants to go somewhere to compete for a starting job

Let him go. I'd rather have Andy.

If they cut him post-6/1 his cap hit is 2.8 M, not 11.2. 11.2 is if they cut him pre 6/1. Basing it on the numbers on overthecap.com

Ever hear the marriage/divorce saying, it’s cheaper to keep her? This applies here.

Well with Winston, there is a decent chance he will throw an interception but there is also the chance he will may a positive play but with Dalton, he doesn't scan the field for open receivers he scans for the quickest defender he can run into for a sack

Jameis Winston is not a bad QB, his problem has always been turnovers, as in Ints. If he's learned anything in his time in New Orleans from Payton, it's how to try and manage the football and not cost your team big with costly Ints. But the guy has always had big play potential all over him, a TD machine with the long throw. I think when he was in Tampa Bay he led the league 1 year in TDs, but also threw a lot of Ints in the same season. Lol He's a talented QB with a big arm, he just needs to learn to stop throwing ridiculous Ints.

Wow! I can’t see him staying though. My guess is he signs with the Panthers, and they draft Anthony Richardson to groom as their future QB.
