I think there has to be some animosity there and he wants to go somewhere to compete for a starting job

Honestly who would want him though?

He played well two years ago before the injury. He’s an upgrade and a bridge QB for teams like Atlanta, Carolina, NYJ, Houston, Indy, Washington and Raiders. And I could see McVay pulling a CSP and bring him in as a possible successor to Stafford.

A team could sell him on the concept even though in reality he has little chance at the starting job, and they know it.

If they cut him post-6/1 his cap hit is 2.8 M, not 11.2. 11.2 is if they cut him pre 6/1. Basing it on the numbers on overthecap.com

The remaining cap hit just gets deferred to the following year in this instance. It does not go away.

Jameis Winston is not a bad QB, his problem has always been turnovers, as in Ints. If he's learned anything in his time in New Orleans from Payton, it's how to try and manage the football and not cost your team big with costly Ints. But the guy has always had big play potential all over him, a TD machine with the long throw. I think when he was in Tampa Bay he led the league 1 year in TDs, but also threw a lot of Ints in the same season. Lol He's a talented QB with a big arm, he just needs to learn to stop throwing ridiculous Ints.

I agree with most of what you said but what is one of the top indicators of a bad QB? --Turns the ball over a lot.

That said, I still don't understand what happened with Winston last year. We haven't had a good sample size of what he looks like after his refinement in our system. The 2021 sample looked pretty damn good. Last year looked awful save for that 4th qtr against Atlanta.

With all the talk around tanking for a QB, we tend to forget what a crapshoot the draft is for even the best prospects. For example--take Winston's name and history away and just put him up as a draft prospect against anyone coming out--he's the #1 pick by far over anyone in the past few years not named Trevor Lawrence.

I dont expect him to take it nor do i expect him to start anywhere.

My guess is he goes to Denver with Sean. Always felt like Seans reclamation project anyway.

Ever hear the marriage/divorce saying, it’s cheaper to keep her? This applies here.

Cheaper to keep him than just let him walk?

Or the cap hit would be more?

Either way, we need a backup for next season. Is there a McCown brother still around?

Needs to learn to take the easy 8 yard crosser for a first down in 3rd and 4 rather than have it 45 years into triple coverage.
Needs to be more patient, and at this point if he hasn't figured out how to be patient, when will he ever,

What can he do to butt frick the Saints? Nothing? He simply gets released if he does not agree to the restructure.

Jamohn, you'd pick Winston over Burrow? You'd be fired and deserve to be.
