Then pay him under the table 15 mil a year.

Frees up 25 mil next year

frick the NFL and its rules. They seem to be optional anyway.

I've been saying for years that the Patriots are doing that with Brady. Only they're smart enough to still pay him 8 figures so as to not raise any eyebrows. I don't care how rich his wife is, how many endorsements he has, or how bad he wants a ring for each finger, it's human nature to want to be paid what your "worth" in your industry. As we all know, the Patriots have a knack for finding ways to bend and break the rules. How does a franchise stay on top for two decades in a league designed for parity? Everybody else has to ride the roller coaster, whereas they just stay on the chain lift.

i'm more curious if drew has NO plans of playing past x year and we extend him at 2-3 years past that x year just to spread cap hit... it doesn't even matter if he's got non guaranteed salaries those years, he isn't getting paid it. THat helps with cap.

Brees does not nor has he ever been paid under the table.

Brees can walk right out the door after retirement and make money by breathing the air.

League min contract and hire his wife for some ambassador position for 15 mil a year. The NFL has shown that the rules don't mean shite anyway.

it doesn't have to be that obvious to take advantage of the cap structure. Just extend him out a few more years than you know he will play, give it to him in bonus and extend it. Dead money isn't that big of an issue if we start over at QB, even if its Teddy he wont get paid at DB level.

That in itself will give us plenty of room to make a play for 1 or 2 players needed to make this happen.

I’ve often wondered: could you import the booster system of college athletics to the pros in order to skirt the salary cap?

Independently wealthy fans pay players of their favorite team extraordinary amounts of money to do endorsements. The boosters would have no official tie to the organization. Then, the booster bets on the team in order to recoup some of the money he/she spent.
