There's a 99.9% they'll both start multiple games this season so people being obsessed with who starts the first game was dumb.

Hope he does well and doesn't need to be benched. frick anyone who is wanting them to bench him after 4 or 5 games without actually giving him a shot
Nobody wants him to suck, he’s just clearly not very good so it’s inevitable that he gets benched eventually. Even if he’s just okay he will get benched because you have to see what you spent a second round pick on before next years draft. We are really just wasting a couple weeks that could be used to develop Shough

Perhaps.....the staff doesn't want to get him killed with this offensive line. He can play some this year and after 'hopefully' a good draft and free agent signings he will be in a better situation.
The problem with this is, if we are in contention for the #1 pick and draft a QB next year, then picking him in the 2nd was a complete waste and we wouldn’t have even seen him play that much

There is substantial value in developing by watching from the sidelines for a couple of weeks. Its been commented on many times by QB developers

Some very smart people said this on draft night.

Why did they draft Shough if thru didn’t believe he was definitely better than Rattler? That’s what I want to know.
Rattler is below league average. Yes we need to upgrade; yet we spent the 40th pick on a guy who isn’t demonstrably better right now.
Instead of choosing the best player available, we chose the best QB available.
That kind of drafting is what gets us in trouble, we seem to wind up trying to force things. We should have taken a top player, played with Rattler and took out medicine. Now we are going to take our medicine and not have a good number two from ‘25 on our roster.

I think Kurt Warner had the Giants at 5-4 and they benched him for young Mr Eli Manning. Then lost most of the remaining games.
Eli then won two SBs.

Maybe they did then they didn't.

I would agree with this much more if we had an established veteran QB. I am really not sure that there will be much value at all in watching Rattler most likely play poorly for a few weeks. Not to mention Shough is an old rookie and already much more mature than a lot of QBs who come into the league.

He wouldn't be the first backup that people gushed over in preseason to trade a high pick or two for.
Just based on my expectations though, I think we will see him start this year, and not just to see him start. I really don't trust Rattler as the guy, but if this is the path they are going with I'll be patient and hopefully until proven otherwise.

You have to pick a qb with the 1st pick? Can't pick an offensive lineman? Defensive lineman? Trade the pick for more picks?
Apparently Moore really liked him and that's why he was drafted. Nobody knows how the qb class will be NEXT year. It's silly to say that a pick is a waste because he didn't start the first game of the season......it's almost as silly as saying it was a wasted pick because he didn't start preseason games.

Nah I think once Shough takes over they will keep him for the remainder. I truly believe we chose Rattler to stay at the bottom of the league and take pressure off Shough to start the season.
I'd be happy to eat my words if Rattler turns out decent but this feels like an excuse to get a good pick and show obvious proof of failure when we inevitabley replace him as the starter. He showed nothing last year and everyone expects nothing, that's the safest way to play it to temper emotions and expectations.

No surprise...very few rookies start from day 1 regardless of draft pick order.
I don't think Rattler got a fair chance last year and think he may be a lot better than some think.
and im team Shough
