After failing to land a safety during the draft, the Saints now are expected to re-visit their talks with free-agent Pro-Bowl safety Tyrann Mathieu and make an aggressive push to try to add him to their roster, per sources. Mathieu was born and raised in New Orleans.

Hope they wrap it up.

Wouldn’t mind it, but did we not we land that 6th round safety/gunner in the top 50 of the draft?

Badger also brings leadership and championship experience to the secondary, if you can get him you get him even if he is in his last 5 years of his career.

He’s a CB. Allen already said this and you’ve been told many times. Melt more.

He’s 24. Not sure another position change is going to work for him, but whatever, blindly defend the pick when there were 75 better players on the board at the time.

I think TM has probably lost a 1/2 step by now in his career but he was never the fastest guy anyway . He got by with his instincts and aggressiveness and that will be the last thing to leave him so as long as we aren’t giving him $15 million a year I’m good with it. He will still be productive but that leaves us with 2 box safeties in TM and Maye and CJG as the nickel. Justin Evans is more of the Marcus Williams type safeties but I doubt they want to bank on him starting. If Mathieu will sign 3 years $30 million with around $19 mil guaranteed I think that would be fair.

If I name them, you better promise to bookmark and revisit. I’m not going to show my work and just to have you throw it in the trash.

Let’s hope the contract is reasonable and the Saints don’t do nothing stupid like overpay in a long term contract.

If Mathieu signs, I believe Maye and Mathieu will be used as interchangable when it comes to box and deep safety roles. PFF even notes that Maye grades best as more of a FS.

Maye has played some deep safety and played it well.
I do get your point though.
He is 29 coming off an achilles.
Maye is a good player and they got him on a good deal.
Justin Evans is another guy who can cover a lot of ground if he can stay healthy.
