The most trash franchise in NFL history. I could understand being outflanked by Atlanta. They made an emotional appeal to Watson being the hometown team but Cleveland. Cleveland is a shithole baws.
We need a quarterback badly as badly as any NFL team. We actually have pieces together especially on defense to immediately compete for the division. Cleveland? What do they have that we don’t have?

cap space and an equally talented team
apparently, they dont need to get rid of anyone to make that contract work, so they just were ok with giving up more then we are, and they were in a better position then we were

How could we get outbid though. Ok let’s look at that angle. How do you get left holding the bag here. There aren’t many opportunities like this that just cum around every year. He is a proven elite tier of QB. Roughly about 7-8th best QB in the world year in and year out with upside for moar. We have Jamies Winston RN SMH.

Outfoxed? No single player in the league is worth $230 million guaranteed. That completely fricks the other 52 positions you have to fill under the cap.

Fair enough. The offer was unbeatable. It’s a bad deal at that point for the Saints to try and match that offer.

Outfoxed? The deal is terrible for Cleveland. Atlanta and NOLA most likely backed off when they heard the contract demands, and even if not, they dodged a bullet.

So are people who lose out in auctions outfoxed? Or do they decide that outbidding the other guy doesn’t make sense? If we had no idea this was going on and would have tried to outbid Cleveland if we did, then you’d have a point. But I don’t think we would’ve tried to outbid them

If I’d heard the Saints traded for Watson any initial excitement would have flown the coop once I saw that contract.
The thing that bothers me is the ding the Saints rep takes being a known, aggressive pursuer of Watson with nothing to show for it. I hope Allen doesn’t destroy the culture Payton spent 16 years building.
