I think McCoy ends up in Indy. They have the most cap space and this “leak” seems like an attempt to drive up the cost

We keep 4-5 DTs on the roster every year. Rankins is starting on PUP and will miss 8 games.

To start the season, if we would get McCoy, we'd have:

McCoy
Brown
Onyemata
Stallworth and/or Edwards or an UDFA

Then when Rankins comes back you roll with 5 or PS Stallworth/UDFA and/or cut Edwards.

At DE we also keep 4 or 5 every year and UDFA surprises aside we have:

Jordan
Davenport
Hendrickson
Horton

So we are not full up on the Dline whatsoever. We can use upgrades at DE and DT.

Cut Onyemata? In what world does that make any sense?

Pretty much. DL will be very crowded, but we could easily make it work.

If we sign McCoy, Edwards isn't a lock to stay on the team after Rankins returns. He'll stay if he's good enough, but his contract makes it easy to cut him.

We could try & stash Stallworth on the PS, but I'd rather not take that chance. He's also the only backup we have for Malcom Brown as a true NT.

In the end, I think it would be Edwards or the #4 DE that would get cut. Edwards can play some DE as well, so whoever is the better player will probably stay.

Onyamatta is no slouch I think this could be or would have been his breakout 6-10 sack year without a suspension.. He’s getting better himself

Rankins
Brown
Mccoy
Onymatta
Edwards

rotation

Cam and Davenport will each have 10+ sacks or our DT’s will feast.. I’ll take either outcome

There’s no doubt McCoy is a plus. We could have a set of run DTs with brown and stallworth then have a fresh set of pass rushing DTs with onyemata, McCoy and rankins.

I think you do it. We have to be all in this season and you never know what could happen. Rankins could have a setback in his recovery. Someone else could go down. Who the hell knows.

The same one where we sign an expensive McCoy
The same one where he has a bit of a suspension issue
Same one where he has nearly 0 dead money and 2 million of cap space saved

I think that we're fine as is at DT, even with Rankins being out for much of the season. But he would definitely help.

As long as the D can bottle up the run game like they did for much of last year I think we will be good. To me not being able to stop the run for real is what hurt our defense the most over the years.

even in the Super Bowl season the run defense wasn't all that great.

I think it would be great if we somehow got McCoy but i think he will go to the Pats or Colts.

If, after watching Onyemata play, you think that a $2 million savings (which is not a $2 million savings as his salary would be replaced with another player) is worth cutting him, you are terribly off base. Onyemata is easily worth $2 million or more.

As a full time player, Suh has averaged 53 tackles, 12 tfl, 6.2 sacks, and 18 qb hits a year.

As a part time player the last 2 years Onyemata has averaged 37 tackles, 4 tfl, 3.2 sacks, and 6 qb hits.

One guy gets paid over $10 mil every year. The other gets paid $2 mil or less every year.

If you don't feel the price for production ratio sits very well here compared to one of the best in the game, then you aren't looking at things objectively.

And just to be clear this is in support of your post Noshau.

We literally never end up with these guys.

Except Byrd, and we all know how that went.
