Had Kevin Clark on talking about the next generation of quarterbacks and Taysom gets brought up as an aside. Said we know Payton has talked about him before as the future, but (paraphrasing) "we've gone from 'oh, that's a fun and interesting package with Hill' to 'he's Drew's heir apparent', and we've seen absolutely nothing from him, a 29 year old quarterback, that would indicate he could handle that".

I'll repeat this: if Payton truly thought Hill was the guy, he should have given him the snaps last year when Drew was out. Would have been the perfect opportunity to see if he could lead an offense full time. That to me speaks more about his future than the contract they just gave him.

Then you’re without your starter and your third best receiving option.

I understand the want to see what Taysom can actually do, but that time will come soon enough without a QB1-like contract committed to him.

Let us not forget, however, that showcasing Teddy likely nets us a 3rd round comp pick next year. Who knows what happens to Teddy if he never gets a chance to lead a team to 5-0 under his watch? Not to mention the fact that many people believed Teddy was the future at the time, not Taysom.

Edit: Payton putting the team in the best position to win and it clearly worked...

If Taysom is going to be a fully effective starter then the entire offense needs to be changed to something resembling what the Ravens are running.

According to the stuff Payton is leaking that’s the future he envisioned with Taysom. Now he could still be lying or exaggerating obviously. But if you believe him then having a Drew-like quarterback, Teddy or Winston, take over mid season for an injured Drew makes sense. It only makes sense to start Taysom when you have a whole off season to do build the offense around him

That’s what people keep saying. But then you change the offense to something he hasn’t been practicing for the last 4 years and you’re left with a 31yr old who’s never started a game who has no game or practice reps in the offense you want him to run

That is an epic fail

Another excuse to not put the offense in his hands. Payton has been touting him as next in line since he got here, but has refused to put his money where his mouth is. We paid a lot of money to keep Teddy around 1 more year when we could have easily made Taysom #2 and brought in a serviceable #3. If he's going to be our quarterback, keep him at that position. He's an all purpose matchup nightmare on this offense, and I love having him on the team. But he's theoretically going to take over this offense with virtually no meaningful snaps as a starter. It's not going to go well.

Not sure if he know what they’ve been practicing / will be practicing. It doesn’t make sense to change your offense mid season when you think you can still make a run. And we were able to but might have not even made the playoffs if we had changed to Ravens style offense. There’s only so many hours of practice with the 1s to go around. I’m guessing the plan was to win a Super Bowl, have Drew retire and then have a hybrid Teddy and Taysom offense and see what shows more promise. Now we’ll probably take this year to give more reps to Taysom to help transition the offense to next year if Covid allows. But I’m sure Payton will only transition if it’s working.

Taysom is awesome QB depth as he can still add value to the team and be insurance to come in during the game if needed.

Considering Payton's past reluctance to commit fully to the run, I just don't see this happening. He needs a slinger, pure and simple.

Taysom is probably overhyped, but the Vikings could not stop him that playoff game.
Saints would have won if he took over.

They made Brees look old.
Not saying taysom could have beat the 49ers.

Pressure in his face all game is what stopped Drew and the Saints cold in their tracks. He looked great all year considering he was coming off a throwing hand thumb injury. Vikings saw something they liked defensively and executed it, and moves were made this offseason for the Saints to correct that issue or at least try.

Taysom is a great athlete but I don’t think he is the #1 QB. I’ve been a Bridgewater fan this whole damn time.

where in this did Russillo say he is probably the most over hyped player in the league?

and if he did then Lol at that.

sounds like if he did it had to be hyperbole since there isn't much else to talk about.

if serious then that was a moronic statement.
