I understand public speaking is not something everyone can do well, but at least show some effort and dont get up there and lean on the podium and talk about fruit in your hometown.

he was there to represent the saints as much as himself .. and he represted neither .. without Sam Mills and Vaughn Johnson in the middle and Pat Swilling getting double teamed on the other side, he doesn't get in the hall .. fricking work them into your speech .. that's common sense ..

if it was common sense, they would've inducted the whole linebacking corps, would they not?

Calm the frick down.

If I was giving a speech that was pre-written and about my life, I wouldn't take the whole paper up tthere. I would make notes and speak from the heart and check the sheet to help keep me on track. Jerry is doing a terrible job and that was most evident when speaking about Bill Walsh which should've come straight from the heart but sounded like it was coming from a gps device.

I think about Bill Walsh *looks down at sheet* every day of my *looks down at sheet* life.

Jerry mentioned Debartolo's wife Candy. Did he snatch up Candy after Fast Eddie Edwards got thrown in the slammer???

Edwards and Debartolo had some dealings together, didn't they?

you talk about the dome patrol, les .. and mention Sam Mills no longer being with us .. how hard is that ??

in a perfect world, he would have said a lot more.

but he came up poor, obviously not highly educated, and all he knew was football.

I doubt he has sat around and studied previous speeches on what he should say or how he should go about his speech. He wasn't comfortable being up there, obviously. No, its not going to rank among the top speeches ever or even today, but that is who he is. I seriously wasn't expecting much more.

That may be the case, I don't know. It's hard to argue with the success the 49ers had while he was the owner. They had our number every year plus all the Super Bowl victories.

well, you are awfully worked up over something that few people actually watch, no one will remember, and matters in no way whatsoever

...when Leroy Kelly was inducted he spent 10 minutes blubbering on the podium and was completely incomprehensible, all while his hair was dyed a completely unnatural shade of orange. No one gives a shite, he's still of HoFer

Make me.

I can't imagine anyone thinking that he would put up a great speech and mention everything and everyone he "should" have mentioned. I'm sure Johnson and Swilling are not having as much of a coronary over it as some on this board are.

Rickey was great, but if it was not for Sam Mills, Vaughn Johnson, and Pat Swilling we would not even be having this discussion. At the least he should have mentioned the Dome Patrol.

In the long run does it really matter? If anything, other people can learn from him as to what not to do, but it was one of the worst speeches I ever saw.
