Werner has been amazing, but he's not Kuechly or David (Both of which were top 3 at their position), elite in coverage, elite vs the run, forcing turnovers, and racked up sacks.
the question was, who does he remind you of? This is Werner's first fulltime season as a starter, you're trying to compare him to a prime David. That is not the exercise
That said
quote:
elite in coverage
David's let up an 81.1% completion in coverage the last two seasons vs Werner's 74.2%. David has a higher passer rating against, y/a etc.
quote:
elite vs the run
Werner just posed the 3rd highest defensive run grade in the league last year. He's regressed a bit this year but is stil 2nd in the league in stops at or behind the LOS.
quote:
forcing turnovers
Forced fumbles are on par with David, INTs will come. David had a year or two where he was getting picks but only has 2 in his last 95 games. Werner's INTs will come
quote:
racked up sacks.
byproduct of blitzes. Werner has only been sent 9 times this season. In David's best sack years, he was blitzing 50, 60, 70+ times.
quote:
Fred Warner for SF is probably the better comparison currently.
Warner may have passed David at this point in their careers.
All and all, Werner just hit his 16th career start. This is just the beginning

Luke Kuechly
This. I was just telling a buddy that I hate to use a future hall of famer but that's who he reminds me of with his high level of play across the board.

know Luke Kuechly is a popular comparison and a good one at that with Werner’s football smarts and instincts but I’ll throw out another one a lot of Saints fans should remember because he gave us hell for many years. Keith Brooking. He was the guy that made the Falcons defense run in the late 90’s to around 2010. Smart, fast and was quick to diagnose a play and then attack downhill just like Werner.
Nice comp, but Werner is not just a downhill linebacker, he is also sideline to sideline at a higher level than Brooking was. Not that Brooking wasn't good at that, just not as good as I see Werner at it.

Pete Werner Who does he remind you of
He reminds me of me when I played LB in Pee Wee football at Digby Playground in New Orleans. My nickname was the Legion of Doom. Okay, I was the only one who called me that, but still. When I tackled you it was like an entire legion had tackled you

How many plays have we actually played with 3 LB on the field this year? Not many. That’s why Kwon wasn’t brought back and you always see Kaden Ellis as technically a starter but it’s really more like Justin Evans as a 3rd safety starting.

yeah, Brooking is a good comparison, comparing him to Luke Kuechly is a lil too much. Kuechly was Superman for Carolina, dude did everything great, that's why Cam called him Captain America. Lol. He not only was solid against the run, but did pass coverage equally as well along with sacking QBs.

Yes, great selection by the FO

quote:I said that in the past and they really could have resigned him for just the minimum because that's what the Jets got him for. But he's been tearing it up for the Jets this season. But I was watching Cleveland and Cincy Monday night and didn't realize Cleveland had former all pro LB Deion Jones playing for them. Smh They got him for nothing in a trade with Atl for a 7th rd pick. Smha I don't know if Atl would have traded him to the Saints, but imagine a quartet of Davis, Werner, Alexander, and Jones at LB in some situations. What freakishly athleticism at LBer that would be.
Imagine Pete,Demario, and Kwon....

I stand corrected. We actually hit on Kaden Elliss in the 7th round.
Solid pick.

He reminds me of a dude who’s always around the ball.

He’s quietly having a monster season. I believe he’s top 5 in solos right now… or at least he was a few days ago.

The only thing I don't like about Werner is his jersey number.
It's annoying as hell.

Werner doesn't remind me of luke kuechly at all.
Werner has great instincts in coverage. Crazy how good he already is in zone coverage, which is hard to master. He is already very good in man coverage.
His technique while tackling is elite. He rarely misses a tackle.

Perhaps.
What if. What if there is no comparison?
