Listening to Underhill’s podcast and he said that Payton had made numerous attempts to leave and anytime there was smoke or rumors, they were likely true.

This means the stupid AD trade probably did block him from the Cowboys.

of course this all comes out after the fact. I don’t believe any of it.

If someone truly wants to leave---they leave. They don't keep resigning contract extensions.

Most of that stuff is kick up to only be used for leverage in negotiations.

I don’t understand all this “smoke” of him wanting to go to other franchises between 2017 and 2019/2020.

We had a great shot at winning a Super Bowl for multiple years, still had Drew, excellent young draft classes. The window was there, and for several years, we blew it.

I can understand wanting out now that we don’t have a franchise QB and are strapped for cap space… I just don’t get why he wanted out with a clear path to SB contention?

This is all setting the table for his next coaching job. If so, that’s pretty fricked up of Payton.

I don’t believe any of that because Payton could have easily gotten the job if he wanted it.

Its not a very loyal business especially with coaches. Keep in mind this is when there was Saints ownership turmoil. Would you rather live in a destination city like LA with their ownership, or Nola with uncertainty. I am sure he did look at other opportunities. He would be dumb not to.

Payton was leaving for the Cowboys after the no call but Loomis nixed it because he didn’t want to be involved in both a high profile AD departure and Payton within days of each other

No. He has a free one with a cohost who is insufferable to listen to.

He didn't stay with us because he wanted to. He stayed with us because the Rams chose McVay over a coach who had gone 7-9 three seasons in a row.

Payton's stock was at an all-time low.

Yea, he's absolutely not done coaching. There's absolutely a handful of markets he's eyeing. Yesterday was a fairly honest speech but at the end of the day, he was giving us the breakup talk of "its me, not you". But... its us... he's done with nola.
